Description

A calm & thoughtfully designed home in a Maine village. Short walk from waterfront park & boat launch, hiking trail & local pub/store. Also a short drive to Brunswick (12 min), Portland (35 min) & other Midcoast towns (20-60 min). Home includes four bedrooms, all with work desks; a well-equipped kitchen, dining area & living room; two full baths; mudroom & laundry area; covered porch, and small yard. Perfect for a peaceful retreat and for exploring Maine. The space *Please note that while it is currently set up for guests, this is our home and not an anonymous rental. We expect guests to treat the space with respect, which is part of why we have priced it reasonably. The living space is located primarily on the 2nd & 3rd floors of a historic building we completely gutted and remodeled in 2017, after moving back to Maine. Everything has been fully insulated and modernized while respecting the original architecture and also incorporating the traditional aesthetics of rural Maine and the Andes. There's a fully stocked kitchen with a great fridge, gas range, and pretty much any cooking tool you may need. Bedrooms are outfitted with premium mattresses and pillows, duvets from LL Bean and Parachute, linen duvet covers, and organic cotton sheets. Each bedroom has a work desk; there are also two 32" Roku TVs. There is a small exercise space we've set up with a Peloton bike (feel free to bring your shoes and use) and a yoga map. If you like to meditate, there are meditation cushions. Outside in our small yard you will find space for two cars as well as covered outdoor seating for four people. On foot you can access the local pub, the general store, and a beautiful park with hiking trails, public boat launch, and Saturday farmer's market that runs spring to fall and features the amazing farmers and makers in our town. Many salt and freshwater beaches (as well as many of Maine's award-winning restaurants) are within a 20-40 minute drive. Having grown up here, we know the area well and are happy to help you plan an unforgettable family trip, retreat with friends, or getaway. Our house manual contains many suggestions for activities and places to eat in the local area and we warmly encourage you to reach out if you have any questions or would like more ideas specifically tailored to your interests. For warm weather months we also have beach gear (folding chairs, umbrella, cooler, beach blanket, bag of beach towels) which we welcome guests to use. All we ask is that you brush off any sand before entering the house again and leave the gear as you found it :) Our basic rules are: no parties, gatherings, animals, or smoking of any kind. If you have a service animal, please let us know prior to making a reservation as we have a family member with allergy issues and would need to plan accordingly. Only guests who are on the reservation should be at the house. Quiet hours from 10p-7a. If a guest breaks any of these rules, Airbnb can terminate the reservation and we will charge a $500 fee in addition to the cost of any damages. Guest access You'll have full, private access to the entire home including the well-equipped kitchen which we keep stocked with coffee, tea, sugar, spices, and cooking oil. This space is completely independent, comfortable, and in an ideal location for accessing Portland and the Midcoast, as well as Bowdoin (15 min), Bates (25 min), and Colby (40 min) colleges. One block down the street is a really nice public boat launch, which is perfect if you have a small boat or a kayak / canoe you would like to use while in Maine. Merrymeeting Bay is an amazing place to explore via the water. If you are considering bringing a boat which requires a parking spot longer than two standard cars, please just let us know beforehand so we can help figure it out. *Merrymeeting Bay and the rivers that feed it (including the Cathance, the river by our house) is a tidal river system so it's important to be aware of tides and currents if you plan to be out on the water. If you don't have prior experience navigating tidal waterways, we encourage you to consider going out with a local outfitter before venturing out solo. We can make suggestions. Again, there are also tons of great restaurants, breweries, hiking, ocean beaches and lake swimming nearby. Just let us know your interests! Other things to note Please note that during the summer high season we generally rent for 5 days minimum, with reservations starting on Thursday or Friday or Saturday. Over the years, we've found this allows us to best accommodate guest needs. That said, if you have a special request as far as dates, please feel free to reach out and we will happily see what we can do. Please also note as mentioned in the photos that the woodstove is off limits (this is due to insurance rules as well as it being finicky). Thank you!
