Description

Quaint lakefront cottage in the woods just steps from Beach Pond. Peaceful view of the lake from the front porch. Includes use of our private sand beach, 10 person wood-fired sauna and abundant hiking trails in Pachaug and Arcadia Forests. Visit with our 6 horses, take a quiet kayak, or relax tired muscles in the sauna. Dock available. The space My parents built this cottage on my property in 2006 to be closer to grandchildren. They are avid travelers and are away a good part of the year. This listing is available occasionally while they are away. This is a classic Airbnb which means you are staying in someone else’s house. Picture your own grandmother’s house. It is decorated with grandchildren’s artwork and family photos and a few too many Knick knacks. Please be respectful of the space and enjoy the stunning views from nearly every window. The lower level of the house has a living room with a huge screen TV, propane fireplace and large L-shaped couch. The dining room seats 4-6 people. The kitchen is fully equipped with all appliances, a drip coffee pot and toaster. The bedroom has a smart TV with cable, and a queen bed. The bathroom has a shower. Guests are always welcome to use the laundry room. The upper level of the house contains a bedroom with queen bed and a bathroom with a jetted tub. The loft area is my parents office and we ask that guests not use this area or the basement. The front porch has a table and seating for 4 and a 3 person porch swing. There is also a gas grill that guests may use. Between the yard and the lake is a fire pit. Firewood is located in a self serve rack on the driveway leading to the main house. Please see the property map in the guidebook on the kitchen table. Firewood is $5/armload. I have been hosting guests on my property for over 20 years. While I really enjoy sharing this space with everyone, there is a bit of hospitality fatigue setting in. Please read below for some information you may or may not know about living in the forest. Our property is a heavily wooded forest with thousands of trees on 7 acres. It has a soul of its own and that's what makes it a delightful place to live. If you are used to living in a city or more urban environment, here are some things to keep in mind. Its DARK at night. There are no streetlights in the forest, and we don't plan to install any. If you are afraid of the dark or it makes you uncomfortable or scared, this is not the place for you. There is no pavement. That means that sometimes there is mud, snow, sleet, ice that will get on your shoes. There are bugs. Insects are part of our ecosystem and we don't spray our property with chemicals. Of course, we clean between every guest, so if you see an insect, it does not mean we haven't cleaned. It means you are in the forest. There is a working horse farm on the property. Trails End Equine Retirement is a 501 c 3 non-profit that cares for elderly therapy horses. We also have our personal riding horses here. So, you may see tractors, trucks, and other equipment on the property. You are always welcome to visit the horses, but please do not touch the electric fence or go inside the paddocks. I try to be as available as I can, however I don't have any staff. So if I don't respond immediately, it probably means I'm driving my kids to school, grocery shopping, caring for the horses or any other part of daily life. If you need instant access to help at all times, please book a hotel. There is a guidebook in the cabin and a ton of information here in this listing. Each photo has a description beneath it. Please check all these resources first if you have a question. Oftentimes, you can find the answer quicker than you can type the question to me. I am happy to answer most questions as quickly as I can, when I can, but please check here first. If you ask me a question that I won't know and that you can look up yourself, I will probably refer you to Google. For example: "How far is your place from Main Street in Philadelphia?" I have no idea! It will take me just as long to look that up as it would take you to look it up. We do not provide fishing poles. We can't even keep our own fishing poles untangled. I don't have time to spend hours maintaining them in working order. There is a Walmart in Lisbon CT where you can purchase them. This property has been used as a vacation getaway since the early 1900's. It's a special place and we are proud to live here and take care of it. We hope you love it and respect it as much as we do. Guest access You will have access to the entire house as well as the entire 7 acres grounds of the property. This includes our private sand beach on Beach Pond, 10 person wood-fired sauna, use of kayaks, canoes, paddle boat and paddle board, and numerous hiking trails. Please note, this is my parents part time residence and their things are in the house. Please be respectful of their personal items and do not use closets and drawers. Other things to note Not including this cottage, there are two other cabins, a main house, 3 RV sites, and 2 tent camping sites on the property. We are usually fully booked in the summer, so the beach and sauna are shared among all guests. We maintain a friendly, relaxed, and happy lakeside environment for all to enjoy!
