Enjoy your own North Shore escape right on Lake Superior in our charming 1300SF waterfront cottage! Privacy abounds with over 7.5-acres featuring a charming creek, winding path through towering trees, and over 200' of shoreline all to yourself. Built in 1955, the cottage has been meticulously renovated, inside and out, to highlight the original features and exceptional surroundings. Hunt for shed antlers, enjoy a backyard fire, venture out for seasonal activities, or stay in and enjoy the views! We want to celebrate the history of this magical place, rather than erase it. You'll find original features (yellow bathtub, pocket doors, kitchen casework, built-in hutch, & more), as well as furnishings and finishes throughout that are the epitome of a cottage: inviting & warm. There are places to kick-back with a book, play games, stream a show, or simply marvel at Lake Superior's endless beauty. Decades ago, the property was an operational farm. We had a visitor stop-in who was a friend of the original family and spent his summers here as a kid, he was able to share a lot more about what 'once was' with us, which was delightful. We love the history and details, and can imagine the cows who once grazed in what's now woods! While the barns are no longer (the outhouse is!), the spirit of the property's former life remains. Please read through all items in the "Other Details To Note" and “House Rules” sections before booking! Guests can access the entire cottage with the exception of the basement. This is to remain private (door is intentionally left open for air circulation). There is a small shed and a large garage, both of which are also private. Access to either/both is not included in the rental of the cottage. Tony and I are a phone call, text, or email away at any time. Emergency contacts are posted in the cottage, as well. There may be maintenance services stopping by, as needed, to mow the lawn, plow the driveway, fill the propane tank, etc. The cottage is on a quiet road, one removed from the highway, so very little, if any, vehicle traffic or noise (you'll hear the train!). If you're outside you may see people walking, many with their dogs, or riding their bikes as they pass the end of the long driveway. Also, little-to-no light pollution! Popular destinations: Agate Bay Beach + Erkki Harju Ski Trail + Two Harbors Lighthouse (6 miles), Gooseberry Falls State Park (17 miles), Iona's Beach (20 miles), Split Rock Lighthouse (25 miles), Spirit Mountain (30 miles), Tettegouche State Park (37 miles). Ledge Rock Grille, 1 mile away, is great for drinks and/or food. Happy hour is from 5-8PM. They have a crackling wood-burning fire that you can enjoy your cocktails next to, as well! Earthwood Inn, 2 miles away, has the best burgers and fresh fried herring (when in-season); highly recommended! You can walk or bike on the road, which is off of the main highway, so very little traffic. Please do not park vehicles anywhere but on the straight stretch of driveway, staying several feet behind the Dish antenna. Please DO NOT turn around in the yard, rather use the two open spots across from the large garage. Please do not park in the curved driveway area by garage. No driving - or parking - allowed anywhere in the yard! Lodging Tax - Airbnb automatically collects Minnesota Sales Tax and Local Sales Tax. Lake County (MN) Lodging Tax (4%) is also required, which Airbnb hasn't yet started to collect automatically. We'll request this payment via the "Resolution Center," which you'll receive prior to your stay. Per Lake County Planning & Zoning regulations (Sec. 6.16), the following must be provided to us in advance of stay for every guest occupying the cottage: - name - phone number - home address The vehicle license plate number of all overnight guests using the property, along with issuing state, is also required. Only the guests included on the reservation are allowed on the property. If more guests arrive at check-in than expected, all guests will be required to immediately vacate the property without a refund. We do have three (3) cameras on the exterior of the property (front door, driveway, and lakeside). If there are any changes to the interior or exterior that'll make the arrival of the guests behind you any different than your own, you will be charged accordingly (e.g., stained/damaged furnishings or flooring, missing items, etc.). Do not peel bark from the birch trees on the property or harm any plants, trees, etc. on the property. Please let nature remain as-is and enjoy it. FOR DOGS - two (2) dog maximum. Dog(s) to be in a kennel when left at the cottage. Dog poop MUST be picked-up prior to departure. Please tag us on social media; we’d love to see you and your dog(s) having a great time! We have an independent contract that must be signed and returned to us BEFORE you can access the cottage. This is emailed roughly 1-2 weeks ahead of your stay. You're welcome to request a copy in advance. The indoor fireplace is NOT available for use. No exceptions and significant fine if violated (see details in 'Welcome Guide' emailed with the contract). The cottage has Dish Network satellite TV. There may be outages due to weather and/or obstructions. Please park at least 10' behind the dish.
