Description
The Salmon River Suites offer a restorative warm cheery setting in all types of weather to recharge, work, or study. Watch the sunrise from your bedroom. The living room is bright and airy and the two covered decks, serving as outdoor rooms, offer views east, north and south. There are 2 equipped kitchenettes and a full bathroom, with walk-in shower and hand held shower massage. It's close to the Thunderbird Equestrian Centre, regional parks, universities, and city and tourist amenities. The space This ground floor double suite is fully self-contained. The place includes its own private living room with comfy couch and pullout queen-size, memory foam sofa bed; bedroom with luxurious queen-size bed, and a full-size bathroom with a two-person, walk-in shower and hand-held shower massage. The wifi signal is good, especially for a semi-rural area. Both the south and north rooms have private entrances, kitchenettes (with mini fridge/freezers, full-size microwaves, convection ovens, induction hotplates, coffee makers, electric kettles, and pots, pans, dishes, and cutlery), TVs with Internet/Netflix (or sign in with your own accounts), and covered decks with tables and chairs and natural views. The house is surrounded by mature trees, including fruit trees, and over 20 different edible berries that ripen at various times of the year. It's a rejuvenating and fascinating place in all seasons. There is plenty of room for parking. Guest access The double suite is accessed by two crushed gravel paths (one north, one south) leading to two stairs and onto spacious decks that allow entry through sliding doors. And one thing about living in the country. It does make its way into human spaces! So please remove footwear BEFORE entering the suite. Patience and controlled movements are rewarded with riverside views of wild mammals, birds, amphibians, and insects from several vantage points on the property but, depending on weather conditions and time of year, the ground may be uneven, muddy and slippery. Stay alert and cautious. Other things to note More information is provided in the printed guide in your suite. NATURE Nature isn't cuddly. It's life with all its drama. Things to watch for (especially for people with mobility issues, young children, and pets) • river and wetlands • uneven ground • stinging nettle and prickly plants • insects (some can bite and sting, some just look scary) • wildlife (river otters, beavers, mink, racoons, and coyotes) It's interesting to observe the changes being brought by climate change. It doesn't hurt to keep an eye on your favourite weather app. The Salmon River, a few metres from the double suite, has been known to dry out in the summer and overflow its banks in the fall river. Atmospheric rivers bring even more dramatic events. Nearby Aldergrove Regional Park has an enormous eratic boulder that was carried along by the ice age 18,000 years ago, as well as views of the international border and uncrowded forested walking trails. UNIQUE SPOTS - further afield, Harrison Hot Springs, Cultus Lake, Stanley Park, Lynn Canyon, White Rock and Stanley Park. SEASONAL CHARACTERISTICS Spring brings a rebirth of life and new flora and fauna. But if you have hay fever and want to enjoy that fresh air, bring your antihistimine! Summertime is berry season! The local and roadside fruit and veggie stands offer fabulous local produce. It's a great time to sit on the deck with a glass of chablis, and outdoor picnics are fabulous! But some days can be scorching hot. Don’t forget your sun hat and sunscreen. Fall and winter bring exciting weather changes! A crazy mix of warm and cold days, rain and rainbows, dramatic storms along with snowy calm. A great time to catch up on reading and online courses! The time of year to sit on the deck with a great travel companion and a cup of hot cocoa. But best to layer up! Comparatively speaking, winter weather here is balmy, but it’s still a good idea to bring warm, waterproof clothing and boots so that you can enjoy all that an outdoor experience offers. The outdoor sofa cushions stacked neatly in the suite are easy to set up and bring in when it’s stormy. If we are notified of a possible atmospheric river event, we will ask you to park near the top of the driveway and pull on your gumboots. You might be walking along the gravel road in a few inches of water to get to your dry and cozy warm suite. Depending on seasonal fire restrictions, guests are welcome to use the fire pit and firewood. SOUNDS AND NOISE We may have additional guests in the suite next door so we respectfully ask for noise to be kept down, especially after 10 p.m. You might hear household noises like the furnace, running water, water purification system regeneration, footsteps, beavers falling trees, and Grok, our resident prehistoric pteradactyl (maybe a heron) calling as he arrives for breakfast! SMALL CHILDREN Families with kids are more than welcome to stay, but please note that it has not been specially set up to be toddler-friendly. FUR BABIES (CATS, DOGS, FERRETS, ETC.) Pets are welcome but please tell us. To ensure their comfort too, bring their favourite blankets and toys. Towels are also a good idea because we get a lot of rain around here. They should be calm around cats, racoons, beavers, etc. They should be trained to stay off the furniture and sofas. For their safety, they should not be left unsupervised anywhere on the property. Please pick up after your pet and dispose of used doggie-walkie bags in the grey plastic garbage bin in the carport. We can supply poop bags if you've forgotten to bring them. If your pet is used to a litterbox, bring that too. Clean or used kitty litter can NOT be flushed down the toilet. Please use doggie-walkie bags and dispose of them in the garbage bin in the carport.
