Description
The historic Desert Moon Inn was built in 1936 as a boarding house for miners. We are more like a hostel than a typical hotel, with 6 private rooms that share 2 bathrooms and a kitchenette. Besides being a spot for travelers and adventures, this building once served as a brothel. Located in the ghost town of Thompson Springs, Utah, just off I-70, the Desert Moon is a prime location to explore the beauty of southeastern Utah. Only 45 minutes away from Canyonlands National Park, Arches, and Moab. The space The private room is located on the 2nd floor in a historical boardinghouse nestled under the Book Cliffs just off Thompson Springs Exit 187 on I-70. Each room is uniquely decorated for an immersive artistic experience. We are more like a hostel than a typical hotel, with two bathrooms shared between 6 rooms. This is an old boarding house so the rooms are on the small size and the walls are thin. There are no televisions in the rooms. There is also a shared kitchenette with a microwave, mini-fridge and toaster oven. There is NO STOVE in the kitchenette. This is an old mining ghost town with no restaurants, so be prepared to pick up food in Moab or Green River. There is a 7-11 a mile away that sells pizza and other assorted food items. The Desert Moon has a true wild western past. The old dancehall on the property, The Cactus Caberet, served as the town bar and brothel. The train station used to be stationed across the street and would drop off western movie stars, including John Wayne, at the Desert Moon to be picked up by the film crew. We are currently in the process renovating the dancehall into a venue for live music and retreats. The staff is an eccentric collective of artists and adventurers, and we try to embody the spirit of the wild west. The Union Pacific Railroad is right across the street, with trains passing by multiple times a day and night. Due to the historic nature of the house, the walls are thin and it can be loud at times! We provide earplugs and fans in each room to help dampen sound. We are also an RV park and campground. We have 11 acres total, so feel free to roam the campground while respecting the private staff areas. Please check in anytime between 3-11 pm. We try to have a strict 11 pm check in time so you do not disturb other sleepy guests, and after 11 pm we may not answer the phone if you have any trouble with our simple self check in instructions. Quiet hours are from 10pm-8am. There are around 10 staff members living on site at all times. We are a small little community and are always working on projects to improve the property. Feel free to come say hello and ask us about what we are building here! Guest access Guests will have access to the shared kitchenette, balcony and surrounding 11 acre property. Other things to note We are pet friendly, however animals cannot be left unattended in the room.
