Located next to a pond just below the Stratton ski area on a quiet picturesque dead-end dirt road. Seven to ten minutes drive-time from the cabin to the ski resort. Comfortable for 2 - 4. Good for a couple or small families. Most dogs OK. Master Bedroom with a double-bed bunkroom. Vermont Meals and Rooms Tax ID number is MRT-10126712. The Cole Cabin is located on a dead-end dirt road just below the Stratton Mountain ski area off of the Pikes Falls road. This is a warm, friendly, cozy dwelling that some guests refer to as a hobbit house or boat-like. It is built out of logs cut the old fashioned way, one by one in the woods and then transported to the site, where they are placed on top each other and chinked. Private and quiet, the side of the Cabin that faces the pond has a patio for barbecuing and general outdoor relaxation. A propane-fired grill, picnic table with umbrella and Adirondack style chairs are provided during the warmer months. It is a lovely spot for enjoying the day. Inside the Cabin The Cabin is comfortably furnished with bedding, dishes, cutlery and utensils. The one-person stand-up kitchen has a stainless steel sink, dishwasher, electric range, coffee maker, hot water kettle, microwave, toaster and a refrigerator. The log living room has a brick fireplace with an Avalon wood burning stove. Gas heat is available when needed. For dining, there is a locally made free-form pine slab table. There are two bathrooms in the cabin, one in the master bedroom with a shower and a second split bathroom with a toilet in one room and across from it, an oversized shower room with a sink. There are two sleeping areas on the first floor in the Cabin: a master bedroom with a queen-sized bed, ceiling fan and its own bath with shower and there is a sleeping nook with two double-sized bunk beds in the area leading from the living room to the master bedroom. Upstairs is a play/get-away/storage space with an Alice-in-Wonderland style children's play space. Guests will be renting the whole cabin. The cabin is a few steps from a spring-fed 3/4 acre private pond. The pond is a great place to enjoy the sun on a hot day or go for an afternoon swim. A rowboat is provided. The grassy banks of the pond provide safe and easy entry into the water for young children and a screened gazebo graces the far shore. The pond is shared by one other vacation rental house, and the owners space, but is otherwise private. During the Winter, the pond is available for skating and the the property is available for cross country skiing or snow shoeing. The owner is usually on site for arrival and a phone call or text away for any issues that may come up. From the cabin, it is a pleasant hike or a short drive to a waterfall at Pikes Falls, a beautiful rocky place for diving, sun bathing or hiking as well as a cool dip. The water is very cold even in the late August. On the backside of the property is Styles brook which runs down from Stratton Mountain. The Stratton ski area is a short seven minute drive away. Take a right down at the bottom of the lane, 500 feet later take a right up Brazier's Way, the back end of the Stratton Resort access road, and five minutes later you will be at the resort. Within a few miles, up at the Stratton ski area or down in the valley, are good eating places, country auctions, fairs, antiques and within a half an hour's drive, concerts and summer theatre in Weston. Manchester is outlet store heaven for the shoppers in your group. For a good day hike, take the Long Trail or the Appalachian Trail, which winds its way through the back of Stratton Mountain to Stratton Pond. A number of State Parks are close by, including Jamaica State Park, which has its own falls called Hamilton Falls. You can put in a canoe or go fishing in the many streams and nearby lakes. Authentic Vermont attractions within a short drive include farmers’markets in Brattleboro, Jamaica and Weston, Dutton's Farm Stands in Newfane and Manchester, the Brattleboro Food Coop, the Grafton Village Cheese Store on Route #30 in Brattleboro, artisanal cheese producers on the Vermont Cheese Trail and country stores in Jamaica (D & K’s Grocery) and Harmonyville (the Harmonyville Store). There are good places to eat including the Three Mountain Inn in Jamaica and The Perfect Wife and Bistro Henry in Manchester. A car is needed. The Cabin sits on a dead end dirt road at 1200 feet just below Stratton Mountain. A driveway is provided for a couple of cars. If coming up for a Winter vacation, make sure that the tires on your car will give you the needed traction for snow driving. The roads are plowed and sanded but can be icy at times. Most dogs are welcome at the Cole Cabin, but please provide the owner with info on the dog you want to bring on your vacation. Dogs must be kept under your control at all times. If your dog is crate trained, please bring and put your dog in your crate when left in the dwelling unattended. You, of course, are responsible for any and all damage to people or property caused by your dog. When you book the cabin, the owner will provide you with directions, detailed information about the house, your responsibilities, as well as useful information about the cabin. The Cole Cabin on Pond video is available for viewing on YouTube. Please note that the Cole Cabin is located in the Town of Stratton, but receives mail through the Town of Jamaica Post Office and so uses a zip code for Jamaica. This sometimes confuses gps systems.
