Description

Downing Hollow Farm is a 35 acre farm nestled in a hollow in the hill country between Memphis and Nashville. Located in Middle Tennessee east of Savannah TN, Olivehill is 30 minutes from Pickwick Landing State Park and 40 minutes to Natchez Trace Parkway. Olivehill is a pastoral community where folks raise livestock and gardens. There's lots of wildlife, mossy rocks and clear limestone creeks. A small community of Mennonite families live in Olivehill and often have breads and jams to sell. The space The cottage, originally a Mennonite tack room, is an Indian-inspired tiny house that's rustic on the outside, exotic on the inside. Decorated with tawny reds, burnished oranges and vibrant saffron, the cozy cottage has a queen bed, mini fridge, microwave and a giant picture window with a view of the forest. Cottage guests have access to a fully equiped Chefs’ Kitchen/community room called the Chuckwagon, with 60 inch range, prep tables, refrigerator, freezer, sun-room, bathroom/shower, coffee maker and a beautiful cypress front porch with rocking chairs and farmhouse table. We will sometimes be sharing the Chuckwagon with you. Cottage guests use the bathroom and shower in the Chuckwagon. This is a separate building about 25 feet from the cottage and very well lit at night. A very nice sidewalk connects the Cottage to the Chuckwagon. There is NO BATHROOM in the cottage. I also have an outdoor wood-fired oven, fire pit, charcoal grill and hammocks that guests can use. Through the summer, you’ll encounter migratory and native birds, hummingbirds, butterflies, lizards, raccoons, groundhogs, foxes, deer and owls along the paths cut through the pastures of wildflowers. During your stay You may be the only one on the farm during your visit.I am sometimes at the farm in my farmhouse cleaning and doing chores around the farm. Sometimes I will be mowing so occasionally you may hear the lawnmower or tractor. Also, you may see workman pass through to the back of the property to work on a cabin at the very back of my property. If the farmhouse is booked, I may be in the Chuckwagon kitchen. We also rent the farmhouse so there may be other guests around the farm. We can socially distance if you'd like to chat about the area, or if you just need to relax and do nothing, then there's plenty of solitude as well. We have satellite wifi so you can do the basics on the internet but not likely to stream videos. Cell phone reception can be spotty depending on what carrier you use.
