The Stunning View From the moment you enter the front door, you are greeted with jaw dropping views of white tipped sapphire blue waves breaking on the apricot coquina sand beach. Nature and wildlife are the main event here. The nesting sea turtles, burrowing gopher tortoises, soaring eagles, calling gulls, young dearlings are just a few actors, while yellow beach sunflowers, orange daisies, and coquina rocks provide the set decorating. We are literally just twenty feet from the surf and the view is always amazing! 2. Huge 800 Sq Ft Deck You’ll love this huge deck. All the main upstairs rooms open to this impressive deck. It offers comfy couches and tables to eat, connect with family and friends, and fall asleep while listening to the surf and the call of the gulls overhead. 3. Nature & Privacy Lucky enough to be located in an oak hammock on a barrier island half way between St. Augustine and Daytona Beach, just off a famous scenic coastal highway. This close knit community of Palm Coast, Flagler Beach, and Bunnell is known for taking it a little slower and having that good 'ole Florida charm. We love the trees and natural vegetation and our community strives to protect the wildlife, especially in the Hammock. We have a lot of creative artists and entrepreneurs living in our community and they have dotted our barrier island with unique restaurants and other businesses. Flagler Beach is dotted with brightly colored shops and restaurants with mom and pop hospitality. We still get lots of fresh air and wide open space in Flagler County! Twenty years ago our family chose this house because of its location. We loved that the private sand road leading to our home was bordered by vegetative state park land. Peace and space. All this nature around gives lots to see. Endangered Gopher Tortoises come out to eat around 4pm each day. At midnight you'll be sure to see cute little green tree frogs resting on the railing. Green sea turtle nests dot the beach in front of the house. Prehistoric shark teeth wait to be discovered by some young beachcomber. Yellow beach daisies dot the landscape. Nature everywhere and always changing. Amazing wonders to be revealed! Plus all this nature provides the privacy. Not only do guests have privacy between each other with 2 complete living units, one each floor, but you also have a private beach. I love nothing better than walking the beach at dusk when no one is around. And I have to tell you my favorite time to walk the beach....midnite when all the stars are bright white and the sky seems to never end. Peaceful rejuvenation is what you will experience. 4. Art & Curios As a lover of both the arts and sciences, and anything unusual, I have been a collector of the unique for most of my life. I want to share with other like minds, the experience of living with these curios for a few days. I have decorated with handmade shell backsplashes and mirrors, paintings and photography, antique typewriters and natural treasures. Children love to discover the sea creatures in the one-of-a-kind coquina floor or look for the black and white sneaker in the shell backsplash. Eye candy is everywhere! The 4 Worst things about the Lazy Green Turtle: 1. There is NO INSIDE STAIRCASE, but 2 EXTERIOR. The house has two complete living units, one on top of the other. 2 Bedroom/ 2 Bath, Great Room/Kitchen, deck upstairs. 2 Bedroom/ 1 bath, Great Room/Kitchen, patio downstairs. This gives complete privacy. There are 2 stair cases that go to the second floor living: one in the front of the house and one in the back. THERE IS NO INSIDE STAIRCASE THAT GOES BETWEEN FLOORS. In other words, 2 separate generations on different floors would be ideal. Children staying downstairs alone, without an adult, would not be appropriate. 2. There is NO OPENING of DOORS or WINDOWS to 'let the crisp ocean breeze in', no different than if one stayed in a hotel. Because our house IS SO VERY CLOSE TO THE WATER....we get sprayed with salt spray continuously. The crisp ocean breeze is LOADED with damaging SALT & SAND. This high salt air causes rusting and corrosion of all metal including appliance parts. The course sand granules carried in the breeze damages the air conditioning/heat pump system. This damage starts happening immediately, therefore, we only use our air conditioning/heat pump system controlled with the Smart Nest Thermostat for our climate control needs. Sorry, fresh air lovers or air conditioner haters; our house might not be a good fit for you. :( 3. Sand can be everywhere and can clog drains if not rinsed off Our beach is loaded with apricot colored coquina sand. The granule size ranges from very fine to very thick and color varies from light tan to clay red. We supply beach chairs, beach umbrella, beach blankets and towels and some sand toys to compliment this sand. However much fun it is to walk in, discover in, and play in, it is definitely not fun to deal with clogged sand drains. This sand can be very difficult to get out of the plumbing system. Sand in the house, on the floor and in the drains is one of the worst things about a beach house. You can mitigate these negatives by rinsing off all things in the outside shower before coming inside to shower. 4. Everything rusts so quickly here I put a new paint can in the garage and set the timer. It took 28 days for the entire top lid to be covered with a coat of orange rust. Hammock Beach is one of the saltiest environments in the country. Nails, screws, appliance parts, bikes, rust super quickly and not one local house, is entirely rust free. We constantly fight the rust. Sealants, cleaners, coatings, and we keep on trying. Constantly. We are constantly painting and replacing. We apologize if you notice some minimal rust marks here and there...but remember...some of it may be that flea market thing I do...patina. :) Great Features of the Lazy Green Turtle: 1. Gigantic open common living space with 3 separate seating areas upstairs, open common great room downstairs as well. 2. Local coquina stone wall with double sided fireplace (decorative only), opens to the upstairs great room and master bedroom. 3. Unique, one-of-a-kind kitchen backsplash made with shells collected from our beach (start collecting soon for your own masterpiece!) 4. Jenn-aire counter top grill...make those steaks and burgers while you are making the salads...no need to go downstairs to grill with the Weber Propane Grill. 5. Handmade coquina rock and sea creature floor borders solid hard wood floor. 6. Kitchen includes: Powerful blender for iced drinks Advantium speed cook/microwave (broil, grill and bake in minutes) Baking mixer 3 Drip coffee makers, tea kettles Crock Pot Assortment of dinnerware, flatware, pots and pans Spices 7. Dancing Dolphins Dining Table with seating for 6 (plus 4 folding chairs) & 2 breakfast bar stools upstairs, Root table with seating for four plus 2 breakfast bar stools downstairs. 8. 2 King Size Beds upstairs, 1 King and 1 Queen Bed Downstairs, King pull out sofa upstairs common living room. 9. Gigantic 8 ft X 8 ft shower with 2 shower heads in master bathroom, perfect for taking a family shower with the little turtles. Soaking tub with separate shower stall in guest bathroom Combination Shower/ Tub Downstairs bathroom 10. 6 Flat screen HDTV's with 150+ Spectrum Cable and Spectrum Fast Internet wifi. ( 2 of the 6 above are 52" Smart HDTV . Use your own Netflix ID/PW to log in.) 11. Outdoor private rinse off shower 12. Beach Chairs, umbrellas, toys and towels 13. Weber Grill with Propane Gas 14. Washer/Dryers 15. Vintage games for family fun 16. First Aid Kit BABY ITEM: 1. Delta Natural Wood Mini Crib 2. High Chair 3. Stools 4. Children's unbreakable dish set and utensils 5. Childproof Kit Note: There are 6 total HDTV's, with 200+channel cable in Lazy Green Turtle. High Speed Internet with wifi accessible from all rooms in the house. The upstairs views: Ocean Downstairs views: Back yard Dunes Check in at 4PM Check out 10 AM Because of the extensive cleaning both inside and out, (we even wash all ocean side windows for each guest), our cleaning service needs the full 6 hours to clean. We are not able to honor early check-in/checkout requests on same day turnovers. Then there will be an additional $25/hr charge for such request. You can pre-arrange to drop off luggage early on the day of check in and store in the garage if you get into town early. Guests have access to the entire property within our white Fence and gate. There are some beach chairs and a propane grill stored in the garage. Guests can enter garage to get these items. The garage is NOT used FOR CARS. Parking allowed on gravel/sand parking lot. Please let host know if there will be more than 5 cars. No parking on landscaped areas adjacent to the red driveway! Septic Tank and drain field located there. Guests are not to touch host's personal items stored in garage. No children under 13 allowed in garage without adult present. Video filming: We have 2 motion activated video security cameras on the property for security and weather monitoring. One is in front of the front door on the 2nd floor landing. It films in the south west direction. The second camera is in our garage. There are no cameras inside the 2 living units or on the back upper deck. During your stay, I will respect your privacy but will always be available for you via phone or text. I also have support staff to handle maintenance issues if needed. At times we will greet you personally, but other times we will not. We have the Schlage Connect Keyless Remote Lock System. Your access codes and House Manual will be available about 4 days before check-in. We also have a backup metal system for when when digital is not working. Situated on the barrier island between the Matanzas River and Atlantic Ocean, in an oak shaded hammock of Palm Coast, at the end of a 1/2 mile private sanded drive, adjacent to the Washington Oaks Garden State Park. The Lazy Green Turtle is a little piece of paradise. Dolphins swim past, a gopher tortoise meanders through the garden, and pelicans soar overhead. Nature and privacy abound. You must love nature and the beach if you want to enjoy our home. If you are looking for a South Miami Beach type of trip, then this is definitely not that.......This is the back to nature, coastal lazy, catch a wave, ride a bike, go to the old general store Hardware store, get some local caught fish and shrimp at the A1A fisheries and grill it, get a glimpse of Old Florida and get the sand out of your shoes type of vacation spot. We have Publix Grocery Store about 3 miles down the road. Restaurants are 2 plus miles away. Palm Coast City Center is about 8 miles away. St. Augustine or Daytona Beach each are about half an hours drive away. Disney World about 90 minutes away. You will need a car to get around. Although Washington Oaks State Park is within walking distance, all other attractions are in driving range. Guests can fly into Daytona Beach International Airport: 38 miles, Orlando international airport: 104 miles, Jacksonville international airport: 58 miles, Tampa international airport: 178 miles. St Augustine and Daytona are each about 25 miles away. Disney World is 103 miles away. NO INTERIOR STAIRCASES: This is a 2 story house that contains two complete apartments and is considered a duplex. Please note, that because of this, there is no interior staircase that goes between first and second floor. This is a 2 story house with a complete living unit on each floor. When you book, you are booking the entire house. You must either use the exterior, front of the house staircase or the exterior, back of the house staircase to move between floors. Because of this the first floor is not suitable for children 13 or under staying ALONE without adult supervision on the same floor. The bottom floor could be suitable for responsible teenagers, at the guardians approval, staying with parents upstairs. PET POLICY We love our four-legged friends. A maximum of two dogs is allowed. Dogs need to be under 60 lbs, house broken, no history of biting others (people and dogs) and well behaved. Breed restrictions do apply. Cats are not allowed. The pet fee is $100 per pet per stay. The pet fee will be added to your bill upon booking. If you neglect to inform us prior to your arrival date that you are bringing a pet with you, we reserve the right to DOUBLE the pet fee retroactively.
