Situated on a private Land & Water Reserve, this charming 19th-century farmhouse offers spacious, retreat-style living, inside and out. Features twenty-plus acres of woods and riverfront, all available to guests. Just minutes from local attractions (Skydive Chicago, Dayton Bluffs, village of Norway, Starved Rock State Park, historic Ottawa, and more!). The space Four bedrooms, two full baths. Upstairs king bedroom with attached bath (bathroom also accessible from first floor). Second full bath on first floor. One open and one screened porch with beautiful views and ample seating. Abundant yard space, fire ring/firewood, hiking trails to river and back. Please note: Fox River Country House offers an "unplugged” experience. No on-site WiFi, but cell service (data/phone) is generally reliable. Also, to ensure the best/safest stay for travelers, we rarely host guests with no or few reviews, and we do not host work crews. We encourage guests to get out and enjoy the property and surrounding terrain, but we do not allow parties or loud/late-night events. Direct, private access to trails through 20+ acres of old-growth forest and along riverbank. Stunning views of historic Indian Island and sandstone bluffs. Other things to note Large-screen TV in LR equipped with DVD player only. No cable/satellite, but a sizable DVD library! Fox River Country House is situated on a protected conservation easement, which includes an Illinois Land & Water Reserve. Bring your camera—wide variety of birds, animals, trees, and flowers. The house accommodates up to 6 guests comfortably but is not ideal for larger gatherings. If you expect to have additional daytime visitors, please see house rules (or message the host) for more information about required advance approval. This updated, adorable farmhouse retains its original 19th-century feel. The core of the house was built in the 1860s. Guests should be aware of narrow staircases. This is a working farm, so the host may occasionally pass through the barnyard to access tools or machinery. Guest privacy (and peace and quiet) guaranteed.
