This is a recently updated, clean and cozy home. This "farmhouse" style cottage is typical of homestead homes in the area. Kadoka is a safe quiet ranching community on the edge of the Badlands and right off of I90. You will be 20 miles from the entrance to the Badlands National Park, 35 miles from Wall drug and 90 Miles from Rapid city and the Black Hills. This is a small community ( population 700 ). Late in the day or weekends can be very sleepy, upside, no traffic. Safe for solo. The space Welcome to Kadoka.. we like to think of our little town as the “Gateway to the Badlands!” This is a great place to rest when exploring the Badlands National Park. This home is an updated circa 1900 home that is typical of early settlers in the area. The main part of the home was originally a school house, with later additions. You will have the entire house and front deck. There is a furnished kitchen supplied with most everything you need to prepare meals. This home has two bedrooms and one and a half baths on the main floor and a third bedroom and bonus space on the second level. The full bath has a standard shower, ( no tub) the bath is a half bath off of one of the bedrooms. There is a dining room, living room and laundry for our guests to enjoy. The third bedroom is located on the second level, this area is accessible by a narrow steep stairway. There is a separate window air conditioning on the second level, but on those 100 plus days it is difficult to cool. Western Sd can have hot summer days and this is an old home. The furnace and AC do a good job with the main floor, but the AC will not always cool the upstairs. We have fans, and the nights usually cool off. Please keep the ac set at 75 or above when you are not in the house and open windows at night to take advantage of the cool nights, don’t be afraid to open the windows and let in the cool night stair. In the main floor bedroom closet ( barn door closet) you can find an adult cot, a child cot and a pack and play. Feel free to use the picnic tables under the trees to the west. You are welcome to go thru the garage and use the back patio. The garage is a private area, various tools and odds and ends. Please keep children out of the garage as it is not a kid safe space. Additional note: The farmhouse sits on a city lot with a private deck and back yard patio along with a front and back yard. The home is not shared, the deck, patio and yard are not shared. There is a small “ bunkhouse” on the lot west of the farmhouse and there are two campsites west of the bunkhouse. The picnic tables and fire pit on the property next door are available to farmhouse guests, but they are not part of the listing, or promoted as a private feature for the farmhouse. As described in the listing this is a very old farmhouse style home. The second bedroom upstairs is assessable with a steep narrow stairway. This is a historic 1 1/2 style, “ prairie” style home. It does have central air and heat on both levels with additional heating and cooling options upstairs. The second level is useful additional sleeping space if larger groups are staying, but probably not ideal for a small child to stay in alone, particularity in a home they are not familiar with. We do keep a child safety gate in the back hallway to block off the stairway access if desired. Guest access You have the entire home and front deck. The attached garage is private space. You are welcome to go thru the garage to use the patio and grille in the back yard. There is a second laundry in the basement as well as access to the normal house utilities. If we need access to this area we will let you know beforehand. There is a partition (curtain) in the back entry hall between the kitchen and the garage entry. The partition offers privacy to farm house quests if the cleaner needs access to the second laundry in the basement. The curtain provides some privacy, but also allows the guests a second exit from the house, as well and basement shelter if there is a storm as well as access to the patio. Other things to note This is a safe quiet community, please respect the neighbors. No parties or large gatherings or additional guests allowed unless cleared with the host beforehand. The farmhouse does not have wiring to accommodate EV charging. Murdo to the east and Wall to the west both have charging stations. I do have a campsite next to the property that you may rent if need to charge a vehicle. You may rent one for $35 per night to charge a vehicle. Message me through air bb and I can charge you then for extra services if you want it reserved . Or wait and contact me for use on a first come first serve basis. Please leave the kitchen and other spaces in the same condition you found them. We strive to keep the home clean, but we do rely on the honor system with the kitchen. You will find most every thing you need to prepare basic meals. We do not clean every item after each guest. Please leave the kitchen clean for the next guest. There may be basic items left by previous guests, help yourself, feel free to pay it forward. The second level is available for quest access, the stairway is steep and narrow and may not be assessable for quests with special needs. Housekeeping or maintenance use the garage entrance to access the basement utilities and laundry. There is a curtain separating this back / basement entry & garage entrance from the kitchen and guests space. If we need to use the laundry or access the basement, for any reason , during your stay we will let you know, and clear it with you beforehand. About the location: Kadoka is a very small town. Like most communities with roughly 700 people there are only the basic amenities. It is quiet, it is safe, and you definitely get away from crowds and waiting lines. It is surrounded by beautiful ranches and badlands. You are 20 minutes from the badlands national park and all it has to offer. Kadoka is easy to find, the property is easy to access without going far out of the way off of the interstate. It is also a days drive from Minneapolis, St Paul, Des Moines, Omaha, Denver, Chicago, Bozeman and Billings. It is a guiet friendly place to rest on your travels. If you are looking for a quiet friendly place to rest during your travels you will enjoy Kadoka. If you are looking for lots to do, restaurants, nightlife, or entertainment you will not love the location.
