Description

Free Continental breakfast. This 1880 Wooden Shoe Haus was built by owner & Wooden Shoe Maker Gerhard Deymann. It is a historic Folk Victorian home, fully furnished while keeping much of its historic charm. It has bikes, antique furniture, front porch, swing, grill, back patio, & yard. Private side & back parking. Includes all appliances, 10' ceilings, & 1' thick walls. 6 minutes to interstates 57, 70, Effingham, & dozens of restaurants. 1 block to downtown Teutopolis. The space The home is setup for families and for business people as well. We have a large indoor area for kids and big families like ours, very comfortable rooms, and a work desk. Outlet covers and other items have been done to protect smaller children. The internet is fast and a large smart tv is available with movies, Roku, Netflix, & Prime. There are books and toys in the big living room. There are 1 queen and 1 full size comfy beds, 2 single roll away beds are available for teens or kids, a crib, and 2 full size couches with one that reclines. We do have an upstairs loft above, "Agnes's Loft" that is completely separate with it’s own entrance. This is also available through Airbnb. There is a small brick building next to the home which was the wooden shoe shop during the late 1800's and into the Great Depression. We continue to restore and improve this home and property almost daily. My grandmother purchased the home after the builder died, and she raised my late father there in the 1930's and on by herself. The walls are made from 3 layers of brick (the builder also made the brick). The foundation/cellar were hand dug and made from local gathered stone and mortar. The floor joists are 3"x14" hardwood boards cut from the local trees. The "ginger bread" porch design is from the original builder. We are starting to decorate the home with historic photos of the property. It is one of the oldest remaining homes in Effingham County. Guest access The entire level is private for our guest. We do have an upstairs loft, "Agnes's Peaceful Loft" that is completely separate with it’s own entrance. Other things to note The washer and dryer are free and so is the Tide soap, coffee, creamer, water, and bathroom items are all included as is the continental style breakfast 1st night. A large smart tv is included. The living room has 2 larger couches one of which reclines and a small rollaway bed (bedding included for all). The bedroom also has a small rollaway bed.
