Description
AKIYA nehemiah Our self-renovated Japanese “minka” house is located in a tiny town on a tiny island of Japan. Enjoy the magnificent sunset views over the Seto-Inland Sea that change colour every day. Take a scenic walk to the lighthouse and you may spot jumping mullet or even stingray. Relax in the stillness of nature and watch the island's black kites hunt from the beach located in front of the house. View neighbouring Shodo Island and the coastline spanning all the way from Akashi to Kakogawa. The space ▼ A Hidden Gem in Front of the Seto Inland Sea The house is situated right in front of a beach that is hidden away so it will feel almost like your own private beach. Take time away from your busy life by strolling across the sand or relaxing on our deck where the Seto Inland Sea's waves can be heard constantly like background music. ▼ Amazing Sunsets That Will Erase Your Day's Fatigue Our beach house is situated on the west side of the island so you are able to enjoy the amazing sunsets that change colour every day. On some days the Seto Inland Sea is dyed pink and orange, creating an otherworldly beauty. ▼ Slow Down and Live For Today At night you can enjoy time away from your everyday life gazing at the stars in silence and soothed by the sound of the waves. The outside terrace is completely surrounded by a fence, so you can relax and enjoy a private BBQ surrounded by the people you love. ▼ Winding Down in the Goemon Bath Goemon Baths are made entirely from cast iron in order to retain heat. In the Edo Period Goemon Baths were heated from underneath with fire and used to execute criminals by boiling, but with ours all you need to do is press a button and hot water to your desired temperature will be filled to your liking. There is a zen garden space which we constructed out of Awaji Island's bamboo in front of the bath so you can forget about everyday life, relax and unwind. ▼ Our Self Renovation We did our best when renovating this house to preserve the look and show the traditional beams and timber that is special to a "minka" house. We made all the windows, doors and screens out of natural wood and along with the revamped tatami room and goemon bath to give our guests the feeling that they've slipped back in time. There are also antiques from the Showa era like the 1945 radio and the fully working post war black and white television. To see the transformation of this akiya (abandoned house) check out our youtube channel "Akiya Awaji" *Only small dogs are allowed. The dog fee is not included in the accommodation fee. The accommodation fee for dogs is 3,000 yen per dog, and up to two dogs can stay. Guest access Check in is from any time after 2pm. We are also doing our best to clean and sanitise the house before every guest arrives. Other things to note Check in time: From 2pm Check out time: 10am Please note that this is a non smoking house, please smoke outside in the bbq space we will provide an ashtray. There is a roof over the BBQ so please feel free to use it even on a rainy day.
