Newman’s Nook on Lake James is a Farmhouse-style lake house on a calm cove, nestled in the Blue Ridge mountain foothills. Nearby, take advantage of hiking, mountain biking, waterfalls, golf, gem-mining, Lake James State Park, beach, wineries & breweries! Make memories with friends & family taking in stunning views, smelling fresh mountain air, listening to nature’s music and feeling cool, clean water of Lake James! The space Designed for comfort, we chose amenities we would hope for in a vacation rental. Living / Dining Areas: Newman’s Nook is perfect to share with friends or another family, intentionally designed with two living spaces. Each living room has a large screen TV and lounge seats, ideal for different entertainment preferences. The downstairs living room has a stone, wood-burning fireplace, perfect for winter! The spacious gourmet kitchen provides everything needed during your stay. For memorable meals, a large indoor dining area comfortably seats 10. Bedrooms: An energizing night sleep is everyone’s wish, and Newman’s Nook can sleep 12 comfortably. The downstairs master has a California king-size bed. It’s spacious with a full bath, walk-in closet and offers fantastic sunrise views! The large upstairs master has a king size bed, full bath, walk-in closet and side room with two additional beds. The third upstairs bedroom has two bunk beds with Tempur-Pedic mattresses, sleeping four additional people. An additional upstairs guest room has a Serta Queen sofa bed that pulls out to sleep two comfortably. Outdoor Space: • Pool: Right next door you'll find a pool, fire pit, showers, bathrooms and large shelter. The pool is typically open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. The fire pit is accessible year round. Please treat this common area with respect so we can continue to offer it to our guests. • Screened porch: Seating for 10, this space allows you to enjoy nature’s sights and sounds. Two ceiling fans keep it cool and Edison lights add nice ambiance. Enjoy your morning coffee and breakfast or a fun meal with friends / family. Next to the screened porch is a grilling deck with gas grill. • Cove and Dock: An easy walk down a gentle slope reveals a deep cove with dock. Have fun jumping off the dock, relaxing on floats, using lake toys or fishing. You can also set up chairs to chill, get some sun and take in the sights of the lake and mountains. If you own a watercraft there's easy navigation to moor your watercraft on the dock. If you’d like to rent a pontoon boat, rentals are available nearby. • Boathouse: Steps from the dock, it’s filled with various size life jackets and the following to enjoy during your stay FREE: - Floats - Single kayak - Double kayak - Kid’s single kayak - Stand-up Paddle Board Newman's Nook was built in 2018. During construction, a local mill retrieved wood from the property and hand-built items for the home including the mantel, shelves, mirrors, and dining tables. We sincerely hope you enjoy your stay. Guest access While you’re staying here, Newman's Nook will be your private retreat. Equipped with full-size laundry, hairdryers in each bathroom, fully equipped kitchen, gas grill, and a wood burning fireplace, we want you to feel at home. Additionally, full access to the pool next door is complimentary during open season. The boat house, with all water toys, are available for use free of charge during your stay. Other things to note Per HOA rules, no trailers, campers or anything requiring towing are permitted on the property. Also, no tents are allowed. Please also limit the number of guests at any time to 12 or less. No parties or additional guests are allowed during the stay. The house is on well and septic, so please be conscious of your water use and PLEASE do not flush anything other than toilet paper. PLEASE also do not put food or fats down the drain. The trash is picked up at the end of your stay by the cleaning crew and taken into town so please do not pour liquid in the trash which increases the likelihood of leaks during transit. (That said, please do put fatty liquids into the trash so it doesn’t go down the drain into the septic.) If you would like additional cleaning and trash service during your stay, that can be arranged after booking, and before your stay for an additional fee. The neighborhood pool is typically open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. The fire pit is available year-round. They are easily accessible and right next door to the house! Please do not park in the pool parking area, limit parking to the driveway of the house.
