No cleaning fee and no need to strip the beds. Lovely & warm & sunny - perfect for a peaceful getaway away in the country. Oxford's Dark Sky rating (only 6 in NZ) means we have amazing star gazing! Only 45 min to Castle Hill. Relax and unwind, feed the chickens, explore the forest, enjoy our little piece of paradise! The space The cottage is fully furnished to a high standard, has a spacious open plan living area and two bedrooms. There's a log burner and a heat pump for air con & heating. The cottage is very well insulated so is lovely and warm - perfect for the ski season! There is plenty of firewood and on the cold days we can light the fire for you prior to your arrival. The main bedroom has a queen sized bed, wardrobe, drawers & a bedside cabinet. The second bedroom has a double bunk bed (double bottom, single top), single bed, large drawers & a bedside cabinet. Please note, the top bunk doesn't have a barrier along the length of the bunk (see photos). We take the time to iron the bedsheets for you. Sink into feather pillows and enjoy a peaceful nights sleep away from the hustle and bustle. The modern kitchen is well appointed - electric oven, gas hob, dishwasher, fridge freezer, microwave, washing machine, tub, clothes dryer & toaster. There is a tv, dvd player and cd player/radio. The bathroom has a shower, toilet and vanity. Bed linen and towels are provided. There is a children's play area that children are welcome to use. There is a fort, swing, slide, tyre swing & a trampoline. We try our best to limit our impact on the environment. Our tap water is suitable for drinking. Reusable coffee cups and water bottles are available for your use whilst you are staying here. Recycling bins are provided. We provide full sized bathroom products (not miniatures) which we refill. We also have a compost bin for any food scraps which we feed to our chickens! Check out our website for more information. Baby items are available on request - eg porta cot, baby bath, toys. Prior notice is required as they are not set up in the cottage. Since April 2024 15% GST/taxes is added at the checkout (but only when you book via these third party sites). Sorry, no domestic pets are allowed on the property. We live on the section too (our house is 30 metres from the cottage) but you get the cottage to yourself. Oxford Tiny House is approx 12 metres from the cottage. Oxford village is only a 7 minute drive away where you'll find cafes, a supermarket, gift shops, petrol stations, a pharmacy, bar, tennis courts, summer time pool etc. Waimakariri golf course is only 6 minutes away. Conveniently situated on Route 72/ the Inland Scenic Route. Just 45 min from the airport, Castle Hill and Porters Ski Area. A great stop off after visiting the West Coast, Christchurch, Hanmer Springs, Kaikoura or Lake Tekapo. International students We welcome short term bookings for international students when accompanied by an adult. We wholeheartedly recommend Sheffield Contributing School (Primary) which is an easy 10 minute drive from the cottage. It is small, rural school with an extensive outdoor play area but more importantly it offers a kind, happy, fun, safe and nurturing environment for all students. For older students we recommend Casebrook Intermediate (year 7 & 8, age 10-12 approx). This "School of Opportunity" caters perfectly for this age group. They offer "Spec" and "Tech" on top of the usual subjects giving student a great introduction to the subjects. Joining cultural groups eg Kapa Haka, Pasifika and Korean Dancing is encouraged - irrespective of their heritage. They offer many sporting opportunities. The teachers and staff are amazing and have created a very positive environment for pupils to grow and succeed. Guest access We look forward to hosting you and will do our best to greet you on arrival. You get the cottage to yourself. Guests are welcome to walk around our 10 acre section. It is roughly half paddock & half forest. Please close the gate behind you as we have animals. Our three steers are big but friendly. They are contained within an electric fence. When booking for one or two people using the main bedroom the second bedroom may be locked. Only guests booked may stay over. Strictly no parties. Other things to note As we are on a septic tank only toilet paper can be flushed - other products need to go in the bin eg baby wipes, cotton wool, sanitary products. Please put any cooled cooking oils/fats and coffee grounds in the food scraps box, not down the sink. Our cottage is non smoking.and no vaping inside. Outside is ok, please extinguish cigarettes in the tin of water as a guest has set fire to a tree! Oxford township is just 7 minutes drive away. You'll find cafes, takeaways, a couple of restaurants, a supermarket, liquor shop, pharmacy, petrol stations, gift shops etc. There are some great local walks eg Ashley Gorge Loop track & waterfall track and the Ryde falls. Check out the distances and difficulty on the Department of Conservation site. This is definitely not a party house. Please do not book our property if that is your intention. Due to previous issues we no longer accept bookings for bridal party groups (brides, bridesmaids, grooms, groomsmen) attending weddings or pre wedding related events.
