Its history is rich and evocative. It was built as Benedictine Abbey and ceded to the Clarisse in 1228. Beato Simone da Collazzone, a companion of San Francesco d 'Assisi, witnessed the donation and his mother, Countess Matilde, and her sisters moved to the monastery to live as nuns. History tells us that the Franciscan poet Jacopone da Todi found his last refuge at the Clarisse. In 1520 the monastery was the hideout of Thadea, the illegitimate daughter of Emperor Charles V. Then the convent was probably slowly abandoned. When Napoleon invaded Italy, he confiscated and sold countless ecclesiastical goods to private individuals including the Monastery that in 1805 ended up in the possession of the family who still cared for it with great love and passion. The San Lorenzo Monastery Complex, which develops around an open-air courtyard of rare beauty, is covered externally in antique stone kept in view and recently restored under the protection of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage. The preservation of all the details and original aspects was the guideline for the restoration work, and the tones and materials are inspired by the Umbrian countryside. The interiors are the result of a choice of style that has blended perfectly ancient and modern, combining fine furnishings with contemporary design furnishings enjoying every comfort and the bedrooms are all equipped with air conditioning. The beautiful private pool has a covered area for outdoor dining and a living area. Two other covered outdoor areas are equipped with the wood-fired oven and barbecue, ideal places to cook and eat pleasant outdoor dinners. The San Lorenzo monastery offers a unique opportunity to organize events and receptions in its spacious living rooms and outdoor spaces like the courtyard. The property includes a Romanesque church located just outside the garden, with ancient crypt; the church can be used occasionally for celebrations. Upon request, not included in the rental, the house is completed by a majestic living area located on the ground floor with direct entrance from the courtyard. The living room is furnished with tables, chairs, projection screen, and half bathroom and perfectly lends itself to being used for business meetings, ceremonies, and parties. The Monastery, located in Collazzone is the perfect starting point for excursions to Todi, Orvieto, Perugia, Assisi, Spoleto and also Florence and Rome, a few kilometers from the E45 motorway, connection to all of Umbria, Tuscany and Lazio. Basic amenities and shops are in Collazzone just a 5-minute walk away. Interior: The property is divided into two parts, each with the entrance from the outside: the main house and the depandance. ** RATE INCLUDES COLF SERVICE 1 TIME EVERY 2 NIGHTS** MAIN HOUSE The main entrance door takes us to the left to the large kitchen that in turn is connected to the dining room with windows towards the courtyard equipped for outdoor dining and a half bathroom. A staircase, which starts from the entrance, introduces us to the first floor as follows: on the right a double bedroom with en-suite bathroom with shower, on the left a living room with satellite TV, sofas and fireplace and a double bedroom with en-suite bathroom with shower. Going up an additional flight of stairs we find 2 double bedrooms with adjacent 2 bathrooms with shower and complete the floor, a double bedroom with en-suite bathroom with shower. ANNEX (you will have access to this part of the house if your reservation is for 11 to 15 people or only upon explicit request) From the garden there is the external staircase that leads us to the entrance door of the annex consisting of a large open space room, equipped with air conditioning, with dining area, kitchenette and living room equipped with soft sofas and fireplace. On the left we find a double bedroom with the loft bed, with en-suite bathroom with shower and to the right of the living room a double bedroom with en-suite bathroom with shower. On an elevated floor and with independent access, only from the outside, is the Monastery Tower consisting of a double bedroom with en-suite bathroom with shower. Park: The estate where the farmhouse is located covers an area of about 3 hectares and is partly covered by a beautiful 3,500-square-meter olive grove with charming nighttime lighting. The monastery, with breathtaking views of the Umbrian hills, is surrounded by numerous types of plants, shrubs, tall trees, and flowers that liven up the environment, all strictly from the area. Inside the beautiful open-air courtyard, there is a large and charming dining area furnished with a table and chairs. Other dining areas that are perfect for enjoying complete tranquility or for engaging in pleasant conversations over a good glass of wine are located in front of the main entrance and next to the staircase of the annex, which are equipped with a barbecue and a wood-burning oven. For added comfort, in the pool area, there is another large gazebo with a kitchenette, refrigerator, table, chairs, sofas, and armchairs. Just beyond the automatic iron gate, there is an outdoor parking area with spaces for 10 cars.
