Southern Maine Coastal property in beautiful setting with several islands and a lighthouse nearby. Picturesque wooden pier with ramp to a float. Perfect for a family getaway or couples adventure. Use the kayaks or paddleboard at high tide and walk the expansive sand flats at low tide. Play tennis on a real clay court. Close to great restaurants and shopping. Near the Cape Arundel Golf Course where the presidents play. Experience some of the best mountain and road biking in Southern Maine. Please also see our listing on the rental platform with a "V" and our many glowing reviews there! NOTE: we have "high season" rates (July/August) and "low season" rates (June/Sept/Oct). Please contact the host for rates. Most rooms have an ocean/islands and lighthouse view. Eat-in kitchen, formal dining room, living room with fireplace, wi-fi, cable television, picture window with water view; laundry in back pantry. 2 full baths upstairs and one half bath on main level, plus an outdoor shower for rinsing off after watersports or a walk on "the flats". Outdoor gas grill and charcoal grill. Most rooms have their own private sink. All bedrooms on second floor. 5 bedrooms, but there is also an "extra" small room w/twin bed (and beautiful island and lighthouse views) off one of the queen bedrooms. We allow up to 10 guests, including children. Sorry, no pets. “The flats” and the islands out front are one of the most exciting things about this very special location! Head over to the islands (all part of the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust) on foot or by kayak, for a picnic or to explore tide pools. On the flats, play frisbee, walk the edge of "Stage Harbor" and look for sand dollars, swim, or fish for stripers! Walk around back of Stage Island and sit on giant granite boulders to contemplate the vast ocean. Your view is of islands, ocean, and Goat Island lighthouse, clearly visible from the house deck. At the lighthouse they welcome visitors; climb the tower and look out to sea or at the lobstering harbor just around the point from us. Take a charming walk up the grassy path on "Stonehaven Hill" from our house to the lobster pier just around the point, and grab some fried clams for lunch at the "Chowder House", lunch or dinner at The Ramp, or go for a fancier meal upstairs at Dock 77. Cape Porpoise village boasts Bradbury Brother's Market, Cape Porpoise Kitchen gourmet deli, bakery, and wine shop, Musette restaurant, Nunan's Lobster hut, Langsford Road Lobster and Fish House for fresh seafood to cook at home (but they will cook your lobsters to take out if you ask!), a library, church, art gallery, and firehouse. The "Wahwa Cottage" was built over a century ago by the mayor of Cambridge, MA. The flower gardens and landscaping, including a rosa rugosa hedge along the front stone "seawall" and a whale rib arbor add Maine charm to this special, tucked-away haven. Antiques throughout the house are from the original owners, and beautiful antique art decorates the walls. Kennebunkport village is a 5-minute drive. Cape Porpoise is located in the Town of Kennebunkport but is the lobstering village, having a fully functioning lobstering harbor. You are allowed to walk on the lobster pier and watch the lobstermen at work, or fish off the pier. Very scenic! The Chowder House has fried clams, lobster, and other typical fare. The Ramp and Pier 77 offer a fuller dining experience, also located at the lobster pier of Cape Porpoise. It's a charming place and a delightful change of pace from the Kennebunkport village crowds. Kennebunk Beach and Goose Rocks Beach are each about a 10 minute drive away and offer a classic beach experience. Additional kayaks, and paddleboards are available for rental from two different local companies, as are additional bicycles. The whole house is yours to enjoy, including the deck (deck chairs and a dining table with umbrella), grills. The clay court tennis court is available depending on the weather (not in rain or just after rain). The large wooden dock has a charming bench to sit at or the float for sunning, swimming, and boat launching. The "beach" out front is a typical rocky Maine beach that children love to explore. The islands out front are all part of the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust and you can walk and picnic on them. There are 4 camping spots that can be reserved through the Trust. Fire permits are required for campfires. Fishing permits are required and easy to get in town. The owners of the property are usually resident in the house next door ("North House") and you can ask them for help with the house or recommendations for local activities and restaurants. If they are not available, you can call the host. A charming walk up the private byway takes you to the fish pier where you will find several restaurants. The Cape Pier Chowder House offers lobster and fried seafood with outdoor seating overlooking the harbor filled with lobster boats. Pier 77 is an upscale restaurant and The Ramp is more casual. If you take a walk up our private road in the other direction into Cape Porpoise you will find the local grocer Bradbury's Market, gourmet and deli take-out at Cape Porpoise Kitchen, Musette Restaurant for dinner or brunch, Nunan's Lobster Hut, and an ice cream shop. Buy fresh fish or fresh or cooked lobster at Langsford Road Lobster and Fish House in Cape Porpoise just a short bike ride away. There is a large grocery, Hannaford, in Kennebunk. Cape Porpoise also has a small library, an art gallery, a church, and a gift shop. You are a 5-minute drive to Kennebunkport, or 10 minutes to either Goose Rocks Beach or Kennebunk Beach. There is no smoking allowed in the house. There is parking in the semi-circular driveway or next to the large spruce tree on the lawn. Please, no parking in "the circle" inside the driveway.
