Welcome to Bear, a romantic lakeside studio apartment in North Country House, our cozy mini motel. With over 300 five-star reviews and ranked in the top 5% of Airbnb listings, this studio offers tranquil views of the lake from every window, creating a serene and intimate escape. Whether you’re here for a couple’s retreat or a solo getaway, Bear provides a clean, comfortable space designed for relaxation. Bear is the only unit with both a bathtub and an oven, adding a little extra comfort to your stay. In the cooler months, the gas fireplace (available seasonally) creates a cozy atmosphere, making Bear especially romantic in the Autumn and winter. Rest easy in the queen bed, outfitted with soft linens and cozy bedding. The kitchen includes a refrigerator, oven, microwave, dishwasher, stove, and k-cup coffee pot, along with full place settings and cookware, perfect for preparing simple meals. For entertainment, Bear offers WiFi and a 4K smart TV where you can log into your favorite streaming services. Please note, there is no cable TV in the area. Step outside to enjoy your own designated outdoor space, a private stone patio located just under your front windows. This cozy spot is perfect for relaxing by your fire pit or soaking in the lake views. Please note, the deck nearby is the designated outdoor space for Moose, and we kindly ask guests to regard these spaces accordingly. Seasonal Amenities include air conditioning (mid-May to September), deck furniture (from the last snow to the first snow), shared kayaks, and the dock (available from Memorial Day to Indigenous Peoples’/Columbus Day). Parking is available for one vehicle, with options for additional vehicles or trailers upon request. For added convenience, a toaster, electric kettle, and DVD player are available upon request. As a guest at Bear, you’ll have access to a mix of private and shared outdoor spaces that offer both relaxation and adventure. Bear features a private stone patio right under your front windows, equipped with a table and two chairs, providing a peaceful spot to enjoy the lake views. You’ll also have your own fire pit for cozy evenings under the stars. The property provides direct access to the lake, with a shared dock and grass beach available to all guests. Feel free to use the shared kayaks (seasonally available) after signing a simple liability waiver. You can also launch your own non-powered boats from the beach—no license required—or enjoy a swim in the warmer months. Fishing is popular here, with bass and perch commonly caught in the lake. Just be sure to have a valid fishing license, and you can purchase nightcrawlers from local honor stands during the summer. During the winter months (January to March), the frozen lake offers opportunities for ice fishing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. If you plan to ice fish, please follow local regulations and ensure you have the appropriate licenses. For those bringing a snowmobile, trails are accessible directly from the property. If you’re bringing a snowmobile trailer, please let us know in advance to arrange parking. We’re Corbie and Rob, your hosts at North Country House, and we live on-site with our family in the neighboring duplex. While we value both our privacy and yours, we’re always nearby if you need anything during your stay. Check-in is self-guided for your convenience, but if you have any questions—whether it’s about lighting the fire, finding extra towels, or recommendations for local spots—we’re just a message away. We do ask that all communication goes through the Airbnb messaging app so we can respond quickly and efficiently. You’ll have plenty of space to enjoy your stay, and we’re here if you need us. Whitefield is centrally located to many northern New Hampshire attractions and sights, including: Mount Washington Cog Railway, Mount Washington Auto Road, Clark's Trading Post, Conway Scenic Railway, Hiking to over 100 waterfalls, Loon Mountain, Cannon Mountain, Bretton Woods, Tax-free outlet shopping, Antiquing, Restaurants, The Weathervane Theater, and SO MUCH MORE. Reminder: North Country House is a mini motel with other units on the property. You’ll enjoy your own private space, but please be mindful of shared outdoor areas and other guests. Outdoor Spaces: Bear’s designated outdoor space is the private stone patio located under your front windows, for your exclusive use, with a table and chairs. At the bottom of the stone steps, you’ll find a second private rock patio featuring your own fire pit and a charcoal grill, perfect for relaxing or cooking by the lake. While you will need to step onto the deck to access your front door, the seating area on the deck is reserved for Moose guests. We kindly ask that you enjoy your designated space on the stone patio. Cancellation & Rescheduling: We adhere strictly to our cancellation policies. If you need to reschedule, please notify us at least 14 days before your check-in date. No Day Guests: In order to maintain the peaceful atmosphere for all guests, day visitors are not permitted under any circumstances. What to Bring: • General Needs: Coffee, tea, ice, flashlight (especially if arriving after dark), firewood (also available for purchase on-site), fishing gear, and your preferred food and beverages. • Summer: Beach towels, insect repellent, sunscreen, swimsuits, non-powered watercraft, and charcoal. • Winter: Crampons, snowshoes, cross-country skis, and ice skates for the local rink at King Square in Whitefield. Dark Nights & Starry Skies: Our remote location means minimal light pollution, resulting in stunning night skies. However, it also means it gets very dark at night, so we recommend bringing a flashlight or headlamp for evening arrivals or strolls. Safety by the Water: As we’re on lakefront property without lifeguard supervision, children under 12 are not permitted for safety reasons. Fireside Gatherings: Firewood is available for sale at $9 per bundle (about a cubic foot) or 3 for $25. Bear has its own private fire pit for cozy nights by the lake. Navigating Winter Roads: We’re located off an unpaved, private road in the mountains with a hill leading down to the property. The road is regularly plowed, and if you have experience driving in snow with an AWD/4WD or FWD vehicle, you should be fine. However, we don’t recommend making the trip with a RWD vehicle or without snow-driving experience. Overflow Parking & Trailer Handling: If you need additional parking, Burns Lake Farm at the hilltop (about a 5-minute walk away) offers overflow parking. If you’re bringing a snowmobile or trailer, you can unhook it at the farm’s lot. Please assess road conditions before driving down to the property and let us know in advance if you need trailer parking.
