GristMill Place has always created magic. In 1829, it was the mill's vital role to turn raw grain that arrived into something better - the very food that sustained a community. Today, the ambition of this wonderfully- appointed lake house is no less transformational: to gather friends, families and colleagues and use all 7,500 sq ft of Gristmill's charm to create moments of discovery, togetherness and lasting connection. The space The 8-bedroom option offers more than 7500 sq.ft. of indoor space , with three kitchens, three dining areas, two living rooms, a well equipped games room and some 3000 sq.ft. of outdoor spaces with three balconies/ decks, outdoor kitchen, outdoor dining area, two outdoor firepit/ fireplace sitting areas, floating dock, and much more. The 6-bedroom option offers some 5700 sq.ft. and has the same amenities as the 8-bedroom option except for the 2-bedroom space on the third floor which includes 2-bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room and 325 sq.ft. deck. The 4-bedroom option offers some 5250 sq.ft of indoor space is has the same amenities as the 6-bedroom option except for the extra 2-bedrooms also located on the third floor. When you book your stay at the GristMill Place, whether it be for 4-bedroom, 6-bedroom, or 8-bedroom option, no one else will be allowed to book other rooms within your space, at the same time. The bedrooms that are not rented are not to be used during your stay. However, if less than the 8-bedroom option is rented, the owners may be staying on the premises in a separate 2-bedroom space on the third level of the house which has its own separate entrance. Special events will be considered for groups that rent the entire place. However, no wild parties will be tolerated. Our objective are for our guests to be comfortable and be able to enjoy the space as a group. As such, and based on the booking options, the maximum occupancy is as follows: • 4-bedroom option, max 8+2 adults on pull out sofa • 6-bedroom option, max 14+2 adults on pull out sofa • 8-bedroom option, max 18+2 adults on pull out sofa 🗓️ Peak Season Availability May 1 to October 31 • Booking requests received by March 1 will be given priority for groups booking a minimum 5-night stay in the 4-, 6-, or 8-bedroom configurations. If you see that, based on the current bookings, there are windows with less than 5-night stays available, then you may book shorter stays than the 5-night minimum during this period. • After March 1, the following minimum stay rules apply: For the 4-bedroom option: – Minimum 4-night stay if booking includes a Friday and Saturday – Minimum 2-night stay for weekday-only bookings (Monday–Thursday) For the 6- and 8-bedroom options: – Minimum 2-night stay on regular weekends – Minimum 3-night stay on long weekends Note: Only one rental configuration is available at a time. Any unused bedrooms will be locked and not rented to other guests during your stay. Unless you rent the full 8-bedroom option, the owners or property manager may be staying in a private 2-bedroom suite on the top floor. It later became a furniture factory and then changed hands when construction of a massive three-storey hotel with 40 bedrooms was built. Sadly, the hotel was burned to its foundations under suspicious circumstances before it ever saw its first guest. An architect from the area purchased the ruins and built a new house in 1949 and passed it on to his son, who made bats for professional baseball players and operated TomKat Bats. In 2011, Mr. Schwinghamer purchased the property and undertook major renovations by adding a 2500 sq. ft. third floor, expanding the games room, adding new washrooms, building new decks, and replacing all electrical wiring and plumbing. Located on the shores of the Upper Rideau Lake, close to the Westport Marina and at the edge of the quaint village of Westport, the GristMill Place is a perfect spot for those looking for access to the Rideau Canal system – - hikes & trails in the Foley Mountain Conservation Area - the Rideau Trail running from Kingston to Ottawa - the public beach on Sand Lake, only a 3-minute drive - golf at two nine-hole executive golf courses - the convenience of small village amenities - you can walk to everything The Village of Westport is known as a great shopping destination with specialty boutiques, a local bakery, restaurants, coffee shops, ice cream shops, a pub, a winery and a brewery. The Cove Inn, directly across the street, is known for great food and live music. The GristMill Place, with its eight bedrooms (10 beds), is an excellent location for families, friends or corporate retreats to gather together for some relaxation time or to work remotely. Guest access When you book the 8-bedroom option, you will have full access to the entire house, the courtyard, three kitchens, main hall, games room, small gym (to be completed by Sept 2025), three-season porch, and three decks. You will not share your space with other guests. When you book the 6-bedroom option, will have access to everything except the 2-bedroom space and top deck on the third floor where the owners may be staying. When you book less than the 6-bedroom option, will have access to everything except for the top floor of the house, including the 2-bedroom space and top deck, where the owners may be staying. If you come by boat, you can use the private dock that is on the property. The depth of water at the dock is approximately 8 feet and will vary by +/- 1.5 feet during the season.
