Charming 1930’s Soapstone Workers' Bungalow
Charming Renovated 1930’s Soapstone Quarry Bungalow
Description
Charming Renovated 1930's Soapstone Workers' Bungalow Relaxing, peaceful getaway in gorgeous Nelson County. Adjacent to a large hay field which leads down to a private branch of the Rucker's Run with excellent fishing. The cottage is at the end of a quiet country lane with few nearby houses. The newly renovated home was initially built to house workers from a soapstone quarry located on the property. During the remodel, we even found rationing coupons from 1945 hidden in the walls! The space Comfortably blending modern conveniences (including wifi) with quaint, historic charm, the bungalow is clean and minimally decorated with rustic tree posts, wood clad walls, pretty quilts from Sundance, warm wool blankets from a local sheep farm, and an adorable wood burning stove. We were happily able to save the original wood floors in most rooms. Enjoy your morning coffee on one of the two front porch swings while you listen to the birds sing. In the evening, roast marshmallows in the outdoor fire pit or chase fireflies in the hayfield until the sun goes down for excellent stargazing. Bring your canoe or kayak and drift down the Tye River, only minutes away, with a fishing rod and picnic. We have a private trail to the river, accessible only to our invited guests from the Soapstone Managers bungalow and our other Airbnb, the Lilac Cottage, which is located just a mile away. Make sure to pack some water and walk through the scenic hay field down to the woods to Rucker’s Run. Just follow the trail markers! You can enjoy the beautiful surroundings while cooling off in the water with the kids! Or, bring a picnic lunch to eat by the water’s edge. We do ask that our guests leave no trace and pick up after themselves while on the trail and at Rucker's Run. Perfect for three or four responsible couples with or without children to escape to the rejuvenating countryside. Enjoy an abundance of vineyards, breweries, cideries, and distilleries are located around the county or book a massage at the Lovingston Spa. 40 minutes to Wintergreen, five minutes to Oak Ridge Estate and Lockn, halfway between Charlottesville and Lynchburg. Your host, Renee Grant, can help you plan your stay and, on request, provides worry-free advanced provisioning. Eleven can sleep comfortably on 3 queen beds and in one loft that sleeps 4. One queen bedroom has a twin sized convertible couch. On the ground floor, you will find two pretty bedrooms with queen beds . Upstairs, you will find a third queen bedroom and a loft with two trundled daybeds, each of which is enclosed in quilted draperies for added privacy and fun! In this loft, a wall mounted flat screen has a dvd player, but no cable, so bring along some DVDs for more evening entertainment. There is central air and heat throughout the entire house. The modern, rustic-styled kitchen is well equipped with a four burner stove, dishwasher, microwave, keurig coffee maker, and all the necessities. A front loading, stacked washer dryer is available so you can wash your clothes after enjoying the great outdoors. The two bathrooms both have glassed in showers and unique reclaimed copper sinks atop rough wooden vanities. On winter evenings, light a fire in the dining room’s little wood stove to up the cozy factor. The dining table was handmade by one of our local craftsmen. Then adjourn to the living room for conversation or a game of cards. You're welcome to enjoy a cigarette outside. However, we don't allow any smoking in the house. Please dispose of properly so you don't start a forest fire, per Smokey the Bear! We have placed two geocaches on the property, hidden in the adjacent woods and hayfield. Ask your host Renee for the GPS coordinates and use the written clues to find the treasure boxes for a fun family activity! It’s wonderful to come relax in the country- remember that with this peaceful beauty, you may encounter wildlife, to include a variety of bugs like ticks and stinkbugs. An exterminator routinely comes to kill the bugs, but it is impossible to keep more bugs from coming from the surrounding fields and forest. Expect to perform tick inspections, as you would whenever walking or hiking in any grassy field or forest path once the frost are over. Additionally, the cottage operates on well water. You’ll find it tastes delicious compared to city water. Very rarely, after a prolonged period of rain, the whole house water filter may require changing. If you find there is no water pressure at all, please contact Renee immediately and she can quickly resolve the issue. Welcome and enjoy our pretty cottage!
