Description
Helene update: the farm is undamaged and roads leading to it are passable. This farm cottage is located on a historic 40 acre farmstead behind a beautiful farmhouse (which is under renovation) with views of The Peak, Ashe County’s highest mountain. We are bordering Elk Knob State Park and a 10 minute drive to the park entrance. The farm is located in the historic Sutherland valley district and was built in 1807 by Thomas Sutherland. The space Guests have the entire cottage to themselves. The main bedroom is upstairs (the bathroom is downstairs) with a king bed and a twin day bed. The bedroom on first floor has bunks with a full and twin bed. The cottage has 100 mbps high speed fiber optic internet so you can keep up with your work while getting away from it all. We also have two TVs with streaming devices. The kitchen is fully stocked with cooking supplies. Guest access Guests are welcome to roam the 40 acre farm. We are surrounded by family and state land so there are hundreds of acres to wander. There are friendly horses, barn kitties, livestock guardian dogs, chickens and ducks. There are multiple log outbuildings dating back to 1800 to explore. A walking trail loops around the property and is about a mile long with views of the farm and Elk Knob State Park along the way. Other things to note Please note the primary bedroom with king bed is up a set of stairs. This is a farm bordering hundreds of acres of state and family land. There are plenty of coyotes that guests may hear, but our livestock guardian dogs do a great job keeping them off our land. No pets are allowed for a reason. Our dogs do not take kindly to unknown animals, and we want to keep them that way.
