Lower your footprint and truly unplug in this rustic, OFF GRID no electricity, running water or Wi-Fi.. forest house nestled in the trees on a tranquil island. Walking distance to many beaches, trails & nature including all her elements; birds, bugs, owls, deer etc. Base camp to the Olympics, Port Townsend & more. We recommend booking with us if you want a superbly located, "green" experience moreover than just a place to sleep. Many liken the Eco House to "camping with comfy furniture". The idea really is to snooze outside with nature in the sleeping hut. However, if nature isn't cooperating inside you will find a convertible daybed- a compact full pullout futon or climb the STEEP ladder (admittedly not for everyone) to a loft where a traditional full bed awaits. The porch alternatively has a twin swing bed that can be curtained off into its own private setting. Whatever your choice beds are made European style (no top sheet) bedding is handcrafted from vintage linens of natural fabric softened from time. Lofty down comforters ensure a warm, restful night's sleep. Please let me know in advance if you will be using ALL beds (5 people max/additional fees will apply) so I can assure comfy linens are present for all during your stay. During the day cozy up on the couch enjoying a crackling woodstove fire. Lighting is provided via 2 solar powered traditional lights, one in the kitchen, one in the living room. We strongly advise guests bring head lamps and or flashlights to supplement. An efficient camp kitchen set-up including 4 burner propane cook top, gravity fed (no hot water/non-potable) sink, eco soap, towels and sponge. For cooking pots, pans, utensils cups, plates and bowls available. Basic cooking essentials provided; salt pepper, oil, coffee, tea, condiments and spices. No fossil fuels so no fridge bring a cooler or let us know and we can provide you with one. Drinking water provided via 52 oz. glass carafe bring more if you think you'll need it. Toilet is a regular serviced porta potti a quick jaunt from the front door. No shower on premises but if you want a real treat try Soak On The Sound a unique bath house located up the street in Port Townsend. In a continued effort towards sustainability, we've used mostly repurposed furnishings including dresser, rocking chair, dining table, games and a free book library. Heating comes by way of the wood stove. If you're craving an insta-heat and flame kinda fire you may want to pick up a bundle of kindling and supplement with store-bought wood. Without fires in the winter it will be chilly so pack warmly and keep a fire going or it won’t be comfortable. Almost everything at Nine Mile Adventures Eco House has had or played a part in a prior life! We recycle and we create!! The off-grid cabin is a small sturdy, hand built (y2k-0) structure by a couple of twenty somethings. A truncated, bare bones dwelling made from mostly reclaimed and recycled materials. Where gaps, cracks and no sheetrock lacks character abounds with antique doors and windows once destined for landfills now proudly play a part in this quirky setting. MANAGING EXPECTATIONS: Every off grid set up it unique, ours is no exception. The experience is simple and real with no modern-day conveniences such as Alexa, vacuum cleaners, pressure washers or hot water this is what nature looks like (ok we do use a little elbow grease but hey I'm pretty sure they had that a hundred years ago!) Headlamps and personal flashlights are a must as there are multiple stairs/entrances and rugged uneven terrain. Warm sturdy clothing and layers are a good idea as well. Cell reception is weak but you usually can get/receive texts and the occasional call. Any mobility issues could make this stay not a good fit as access to the only 'traditional' style bed is via a very steep ladder The property is shared with others however the spaces are nicely separated both have they're own private outdoor areas. Similar to a campground both rentals do share a regularly serviced portable toilet unit and neither have bathing facilities. If your a shower a day person the state park; Fort Flagler at the northern tip of the island has coin operated showers or down by the general store there's a dock where you can jump in the bay! Hike the properties 5 acres either by trail or bushwhack your own! Relax after on the front porch enjoying the birds and occasional deer. Eat dinner by candlelight in the dining nook on the large table good for playing cards or board games. The entire property is use at you and any of your guests own risk, one of our only requests as landlord is we do ask that you sign a waiver/release acknowledging this. We are happy to greet you upon arrival and give you a small tour to familiarize yourself with the alternative off grid systems, and layout. If this is something you would like please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate. We emphasize that the property is yours to share in its entirety for both you(cabin) and the other rental (tent)renters alike (and in the interest of full disclosure an occasional owl, deer, forest mouse, mosquito, bee, spider, snail, bat or slug will undoubtedly make an appearance). PLEASE READ AS THE LISTING IS PRIVATE BUT THE PROPERTY IS SHARED WITH ONE OTHER RENTAL access is drive up & the road is well maintained until the last turn where it does narrow, follow signs marked “9 Mile Farm”. Expect some pot holes, rogue weeds and sticks, however you should not need 4 wheel drive to access. You'll first see the glamping tent, continue up driveway (porta potty on left) parking is a little further ahead. follow path on right up to house. Land is raw, ungroomed, wild and natural Arriving with some daylight is also encouraged as evening lighting is nil. The entire 5 acre property and its trails, paths, road and portable toilet (serviced regularly by Goodman sanitation) is SHARED with another Airbnb rental located in its own private setting. Please clean up after yourself and leave the space as you found it. The 5 acre property is use at you and any of your guests own risk, one of our only requests as landlord is we do ask that you sign a waiver/release acknowledging that you have read and understand the ENTIRE description/listing, as well as the risks and agree to hold harmless. We suggest pack your rig with whatever suits your fancy; bring bicycles, hiking boots, roller skates, kayaks, paddle boards, kite boards (within a mile is a popular kite board spot on windy days). The island is a great spot for a bicycle ride and there are many beaches with easy public access, some within walking distance. Nine Mile Adventures Eco House experience may not be for everyone if you are uneasy without your wifi, running water or really any modern day conveniences, or on the contrary if bugs make you fidget, the quiet makes you nervous and you can't roll with occasionally unforecasted wind/fog/rain this may not be your cup of tea, and thats ok!. The cabin is a work in progress and cannot be fully secured(locked). It is made mostly from reclaimed building materials, a steep ladder may make the loft inaccessible to some and has things like antique windows that don't fully latch, bugs get in, hot air gets out. Be honest with yourself, does this listing sound intriguing or terrifying? if the latter please rethink before booking. Please understand that the camp is undergoing constant improvements & various projects may be underway during your visit. We try to keep it tidy but realistically that just isn't always possible. What we truly hope, what our vision from the beginning has been is that all our guests enjoy a unique, peaceful, handcrafted experience that brings each individual that much closer to our planet, respecting her maybe just a little bit more. 9 Mile adventures hopes to provide you with a moment or more of tranquility and a fulfilling escape from society. Feel free to hug the trees.
