Cabin in Sylva

Scholé is from Greek & means "leisure." Our Scholé is located on the Delayed Harvest Waters of the Tuckasegee River and is a North Carolina Heritage Site because of its serpentine/olivine rocks and rare plants. It is ideal for fishing, tubing, kayaking,hiking, arts, reading, writing, napping, or wandering through the trees and unique rocks. The Guest 940 sq. ft. two bedroom, two bath, kitchenette/dinette/ living room space with a porch & patio is attached to but private from the main house. The space Guests will have 940 sq feet of internal living space. That space includes two bedrooms with queen beds and an en suite bathroom (2), a kitchenette, dinette, living room, and full-wall stone gas fireplace. Guests have direct access to a 400 sq. feet covered front porch facing the river, chairs, tables, couches, and ceiling fans and a 300 sq. feet back deck facing the mountain with a sink, BBQ (Weber grill & charcoals provided), table and chairs, umbrella, and fire pit (wood provided). On the grounds, we have a place to clean (outdoor sink and small counter area), hang wet gear/ cloths, and safely secure fish, fly rods, and kayaks. There is a bocce ball court and other yard games available. We can make available the laundry room, iron, ironing board. We are located in Jackson County North Carolina. The campus of Western Carolina University and Southwestern Community College are approximately five minutes away. Grocery stores ,restaurants, breweries, city parks, bookstores, and shops/ shopping are located nearby. The entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, hiking trails, biking trails, and the Blue Ridge Parkway are located about ten miles away. The Judaculla Rock is approximately 10 miles away and the Cherokee Indian Reservation and Casino is 18 miles away. Asheville and the Asheville Regional airport is an hour away. The Biltmore mansion, grounds, and winery are an hour away. We are members of the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce and can provide you with lists and brochures. (For interested guests, I can offer private art lessons in my studio located above the garage. I am a former professor and am a professional artist with an M.A. in art.) Guest access Guests have access to: 1) two bedrooms (all bedding and linens) 2) two bathrooms ( ensuite with linens) 3) a living room with a leather couch and chair, bookcase with some books, television and DVD player and dvds 4) kitchenette ( sink, counter/prep space, mini-oven (can cook a chicken in it), hot plate, microwave, electric frying pan, crock pot, coffee pot, water cooler, refrigerator, pots, pans, plates, cups, salt, pepper, coffee, sugar, coffee filters, linens and cooking and eating utensils) 5) a dinette table and chairs ( in front of a full wall gas fireplace) 6) a covered front porch with table and chairs, other seating, three ceiling fans, linens, variety of herbs ( in season) 7) a back deck with a table, chairs, umbrella, linens, fire pit (some wood provided), Weber grill (coals and starter provided), and outdoor and indoor games 8) Free Parking and free access to the property and to the river facing the house. 9) Place to hang fishing equipment During your stay Your space is attached to but separate from the house. We will be available on the grounds during your stay. Other things to note The property is an Olivine Serpentine with rare and endangered plants and is on the North Carolina Registry for unique properties. There is only one other piece like it and it is owned by the state. My art studio/ gallery is located on the property and, for guests who are interested, I can offer a private art/ paint and beverage class for a small fee.
