Newly-renovated house in the country. Quiet getaway, hunting basecamp, or a base for excursions around mid-coast Maine. Relax in this spacious home after enjoying nearby Unity, with train station and Amish community, or Belfast with its waterfront. Take day trips to Boothbay, Camden, Rockland, Bar Harbor, or Bangor. Or just enjoy nature on the back deck and nearby forest trails. Sleeps four in two formal bedrooms, two more adults on a futon, four/six kids or young adults in a rumpus room. This house is in a great location for a quiet getaway or a basecamp for exploring much of the great State of Maine. It is on the edge of the Unity/Thorndike/Troy Amish district. We have kept the inside simple and clean so you can enjoy an uncluttered space. The sleeping accommodations are flexible and expandable for anything from a couple to a ten-person family reunion -- assuming that some of the ten are kids that don't mind camping out in the rumpus room. The place is very clean, down-to-earth, and simple. No TV, but there is WiFi. It's close to the midcoast region (fourteen miles to Belfast), but fully two hours from Acadia NP or the North Woods. There are two formal bedrooms, each connecting to their own bathrooms. One has a queen bed, the other a full bed. There is also a double bed-sized futon in the living room. Upstairs is a rumpus room with a small, simple office space for working, and fold-out beds and a futon for another four to six kids or young adults to camp out. There are ten sleeping spaces total, not counting a crib and a toddler bed. There are plenty of extra linens and pillows. We've stocked with some books, games, and toys if you bring kids along. We can also provide some of our yarn from our sheeps' wool if you'd like to knit or crochet! We will stock the fridge and freezer with some of our other farm products, including eggs, lamb or pork, and my famous pesto. The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, cookware, and basic appliances. The back deck offers a great place to relax. Just beyond the back yard, the vegetation supports diverse bird species, so for a large part of the year they provide excellent musical accompaniment. There is ample off-road parking. Attached to the house is a large garage that is private and kept locked. It is used as storage and as a workshop when guests are not here. If you are staying for a longer period, like more than three days, there is a possibility we may need to go into the garage to get equipment or supplies that we also use for our own residence and farm. We will not enter the house where you are staying and we will give you advance notice that we will be in the garage so you won't be surprised. The entire house and yard are available to guests. The garage is private storage space and kept locked. Upstairs is a rumpus room including a small simple office space for working away from home. We live 4.5 miles down the road and can be available if needed. We will try to meet you at, or soon after check-in just to make sure you have what you need, and will coordinate with you on routine tasks like snow removal, mowing, or access to the garage, but otherwise, unless you need something from us, we will leave you alone. Our house is located on a pretty quiet road. There is one neighbor to the west that you may see. There are no visible neighbors to the north or east. There is also a neighbor across the road to the south, but trees along the road separate them. You can walk along the road, but to get to any stores you will need to drive. Brooks and Unity are the closest towns with shops that have essentials. There is room for about six vehicles in the driveway. Plenty of room to park a trailer or boat. We allow pets. If you are allergic to dogs or cats, you may not wish to stay here.
