The Collingwood was built in 1882 and boasts quintessential Chautauqua charm. Inside the Chautauqua Institution, the house is surrounded by tall maples and shady oaks. It is one block from the lake, with large porches for enjoying the breeze off the lake or golden hour on the porch. Apartment 4 is a favorite of many returning families, and its porch is truly a Chautauqua gem. This large, top-floor apartment sleeps up to eight. ***Guests MUST advise upon booking if they wish to bring a dog.*** Booking this apartment grants you access to the entire second floor of the Collingwood, one flight up above the street with lovely views of Smith Wilkes Park. The large, private porch has eating tables and chairs as well as wicker furniture. The living room has a large couch and two stuffed chairs and a rocker, and a ceiling fan. There is a window AC in all of the the bedrooms and kitchen. The master bedroom has a king bed and ensuite bathroom with tub/shower unit. The queen bedroom has a queen bed and its bathroom has tub/shower, toilet and sink. The third bedroom (called “Ye Olde Messy Room” by its former child inhabitants) has two twin beds. The kitchen has brand-new cabinets, a dining room set, dishwasher, washer and dryer, and multiple appliances (blender, coffee maker, toaster, toaster oven). Wifi is included. I am available by phone or email for help with check-in or questions during your stay. The Collingwood is located inside the Chautauqua Institution (chq dot org), which has world-class arts and culture programming, gardens, and lakeside recreation. Chautauqua normally requires a gate pass for entry during the 9-week summer season of arts and culture programming. There is no gate pass needed in summer of 2020! The off-season is always free. The Collingwood is located at the corner of Foster and Fletcher Avenues, and it is a five minute walk from the Amphitheater and the Hall of Philosophy. It is one block away from Chautauqua Lake and from the Athenaeum Hotel. Chautauqua is a fun community for walking and cycling. During the summer, it is 100% pedestrian-friendly. During the summer season, parking is available in the Main Lot across the street from the Main Gate. In the off-season, you can park in the South Lot about a 5-minute walk from the house. There is no parking on the Collingwood premises itself. The Collingwood was built in 1882, and in older houses, you might hear the footsteps of guest above you. For everyone's relaxation, please observe the quiet hours from 10:30pm to 8am. What are quiet hours? It means using “inside voices”, avoiding letting doors slam, and no loud music. You are most welcome to socialize on porches as long as you speak quietly and are respectful of other guests. But remember, no parties at any time. Please communicate these messages to your whole group.
