Guesthouse in El Rito
Description
Rustic, cute, cozy, comfortable country cabin @ 7300 ft on 8 acres with high speed internet. Peaceful, quiet & secluded setting in the Carson National Forest. Explore Anasazi ruins & O’Keefe Country, hike/ bike/climb in El Rito, soak at Ojo Caliente/ undeveloped springs in Taos & Jemez, float the Rio Grande/Chama, swim in Abuquiu lake or enjoy miles of roads great for dirt bikes/ATVs. XC ski 2 mi away after snowstorms + more above Chama/Los Alamos/Taos. Downhill ski in Santa Fe or Taos- 1.5 hr. The space Full disclosure: the cabin is old, circa 1940’s. The floor slopes in the kitchen & creaks a bit . There's also some questionable (70’s remodel) design choices such as linoleum instead of tile for the shower surround. (?) And in order to access the shower, you have to lift a leg about 2 feet to step into a hand-formed cement composite tub. There's also linoleum lined shelves under the kitchen sink. (?) It's cute-funky & unconventional, but neatly done. The guy who built my cabin lived there in the 70's during construction-which explains some things. The floors get cold, so bring slippers except in summer! Furthermore, it’s the country...and is IN the forest! I do everything I can to prevent mice and insects, BUT, I can't guarantee anything. I want you to be completely comfortable & your stay to be GREAT, so PLEASE, if the possibility of encountering either is OUT of your comfort zone I kindly encourage you to book elsewhere. All that said, my property is a very unique & beautiful high-desert oasis with lots of trees & running water. It’s very quiet & serene. The people who are drawn to my place have loved it! The sheets are 600 thread count cotton + a cotton blanket for summer and a down comforter with a cotton duvet cover for winter. The bath towels are new and fluffy! My dog Angel & I live on the property. My home is close to the cabin, but privacy is maintained because of the trees & seperate driveways. (See photo.) I have 3 small windows on the north side of my house (the shared side) which I open for cross ventilation in summer. I've had long-term tenants and rarely see or hear them, and vice versa. (See guest reviews.) AWD/4WD is necessary for winter snow & spring mud conditions. Private cabin entrance, driveway & parking is behind a gate which remains closed & locked at all times with your cooperation. You might be asked to use my entrance & park in my driveway in spring under very muddy conditions. Thanks, and I look forward to hosting you! Guest access There is a private covered deck & a large private outdoor space that's all yours to enjoy!
