Description

Step back in time at this beautifully restored 1800s schoolhouse, now a cozy mountain retreat beside a peaceful trout stream. Inside, you’ll find handcrafted furnishings and thoughtfully curated antiques paired with modern comforts for a truly unique stay. Minutes from Lake Junaluska, Cataloochee Ski Area, and the charm of downtown Waynesville, it’s the perfect blend of history, relaxation, and mountain adventure. The space Once the first schoolhouse in Maggie Valley, this one-of-a-kind property has been lovingly restored to celebrate its rich history while providing modern comfort. You'll find original features like a corn-cob floor patch and student carvings on the beadboard walls, alongside handcrafted furniture and a bookshelf made from the schoolhouse's original door. The open living space centers around a cozy fireplace and plush seating, while the breakfast nook is ideal for quiet mornings with local coffee and mountain views. The highlight is the handmade copper bathtub, perfect for a long soak after a day of exploring. The screened-in porch invites you to unwind with the soothing sounds of the stream, or step outside to enjoy the large grassy yard, perfect for lounging, picnicking, or fishing (with an NC license). ✨Why Guests Love This Home • One-of-a-kind restored 1800s schoolhouse • Peaceful creekside setting with mountain views • Handmade copper bathtub and cozy fireplace • Screened-in porch ideal for morning coffee or evening wine • Close to skiing, hiking, and charming small-town shops 📍Nearby Attractions • Lake Junaluska - 9.4 Miles • Cataloochee Ski Area - 13 Miles • Downtown Waynesville - 8.9 Miles • Great Smoky Mountains National Park trails - 9.7 Miles • Cataloochee Valley Elk Viewing - 11 Miles 🌲Location Summary • Tucked among the trees with views of a peaceful stream, the home offers a quiet, storybook setting. The surrounding area is a blend of mountain charm and small-town hospitality, with neighboring cows grazing in nearby fields and scenic backroads that lead you to skiing, hiking, or horseback riding at Cataloochee Ranch within 25 minutes. • Less than 10 miles away, downtown Waynesville delights visitors with boutique shops, cozy cafés, and local favorites like Wildflower Blue Bakery, Orchard Coffee, and Boojum Brewing. For outdoor enthusiasts, Lake Junaluska offers kayaking, SUP, tennis, and a 3.8-mile walking path. Hikers will love being just minutes from trailheads within Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Guest access Guests have the entire property to themselves, including the screened porch, grassy yard, and trout stream that runs through the property. Parking is available on-site. Check-in is simple and contactless, and the home is equipped with keyless entry. Other things to note 1) The copper bathtub/shower is compact and requires a higher step up and in to enter and a big step down to exit. While it is fully functional for bathing and showering, the shower is very compact, and the tub floors are on a tilt, so use can be difficult for some and a bath can be easily drawn. 2) There is no washer/dryer on this property. 3) The fireplace is seasonal.
