Description

Relax on Orcas Island in this quiet and peaceful guesthouse high up on Buck Mountain. Enjoy gorgeous views and spectacular sunsets, south to Olympic Mtns and west to Vancouver Is. This 900 sq ft guesthouse has a rustic elegance and is comfortably furnished. Ten foot high ceilings add to the grand and spacious feeling of the guesthouse. Hand waxed pine plank floors and dark woodwork give a lustrous sense and air of old and timeless beauty. The space My home is located about 3 miles from the town of Eastsound, where you will find groceries, shopping and restaurants, movies, library, and many activities. It takes 5 to 10 minutes to drive to town, and about 30 minutes to drive to the ferry at Orcas landing. The guesthouse has a full kitchen and bath. Dining, living, and sleeping areas are open areas, while the bathroom has doors for privacy. Guests can dine or lounge on the private deck when the weather allows. Sunsets are viewed from the guesthouse deck through the winter months, approximately October to March. A short trek across the property thru the woods provides a mossy rock outcrop to sit on with unfettered sweeping views of Eastsound, and islands beyond to the west/northwest, and spectacular for sunsets during summer months. The guesthouse is a completely separate living unit, and other than the main house, there are no other neighboring homes within view of this property. The guesthouse is the entire upper floor above a detached garage, and has a separate entrance (outside stairway) and deck. The guesthouse is heated and cooled with an efficient ductless heat pump and also has a wood stove. It is quite cozy to spend fall/winter/spring days with blazing warmth from the wood stove. Or enjoy pleasant NW summer evenings lingering on the private deck and watching nighthawks fly, peeping, and swooshing by. Fabulous for a weekend spent kicking back to read, or an inspiring environment for writers, artists, or musicians wanting to get away. Many outdoor activities around the island are available year-round. We are in very close proximity to Moran State Park. Queen and twin beds are firm and very comfortable. There is ample closet space, and fine soft towels and linens, local island soaps and lotions, and shampoo/conditioner are supplied. All soaps and cleaning products available and used in the guesthouse are minimally scented, typically only with essential oils. If you are sensitive to any products, please alert me prior to your visit. I make considerable effort to use environmentally friendly, non-toxic, and non-VOC products, but also employ strict sanitization protocols. As the waxed pine floors can be both slippery and easily damaged, I encourage guests to bring their own slippers/flipflops to wear inside only. Socks only can be slippery. The full-size and fully stocked kitchen has a refrigerator, dishwasher, stove/oven, microwave, toaster, blender, tea kettle, tea ware, french press and various drip coffee makers, crock pot, pots/pans/baking dishes, utensils, plates, flatware, mugs, glassware, etc. A TV, Roku, and DVD player are available to watch movies, (some classic DVDs in the GH) including streaming Netflix or AppleTV. A bluetooth speaker provides radio and/or music capability if you wish to bring your own music to listen to. Internet access is via fiber optic and is excellent with very high capacity! Guest access Guests access the guesthouse with their own entrance. The main house is nearby (see aerial photo) but both dwellings are quite private. Guests can wander the property and walking on local roads (all are private) is fine, but trespassing on other homeowners properties is not tolerated. Laundry facilities are available in the garage below, but please ask to use. Both gas and charcoal bbq's are available for guests to use. The deck has a dining table/chairs and comfy zero gravity lounge chairs. Bicycles may be stored in the garage (please not in the guesthouse) and a bike repair stand and basic tools are available for your use if needed. Other things to note There are many exciting activities on the island such as whale watching, road biking (caution: Orcas has hills!), mountain biking in Moran State Park (seasonal), kayaking, sailboating, beach-walking, hiking ... and other islands to tour as well! Bicycling is not allowed on the private Buck Mountain Road due to homeowner liability concerns. This includes e-bikes and is strictly enforced. The guesthouse is quite spacious (~900 sq ft) but does not have separate bedroom(s). Small children must always be supervised and monitored closely both inside and outside on my property. I am not charging a security deposit, so please respect my property and leave it as you found it. If you have an accident that stains the oriental carpets, furniture, bedding/linens or damages any of the amenities, just let me know what the stain is so I can try best ways to clean/repair it. Any spills should be blotted (not rubbed) with water only, as soon as possible! Please do not attempt to clean the oriental carpets with chemicals as they will damage the rugs. SJC Permit No. PPROV0-17-0062
