Escape to a peaceful hillside retreat nestled in the woods, where the melodies of farm animals and wild birds sooth the soul. Our stylish and cozy bungalow features three charming porches that invite quiet reflection. Enjoy an easy-to-use indoor COMPOST TOILET. Treat yourself to our rejuvenating sauna (+$40) and wander through our garden & along wooded paths. While close to town, UNC, Duke and I-40, this getaway promises a restorative escape immersed in nature’s serenity and thoughtful living. The space Blackwood Mountain Bungalow is the guest house on our 2-acre property. The “dog trot" design with front and back doors across from each other and a cupola on the roof which allows for natural air flow. At 380 square feet, it is a bit larger than a true "tiny house." The bungalow sits adjacent (about 30 steps) to our log home. It is very private, especially with the porch and deck off the back of the bungalow. Inside, sunshine beams in from the large east-facing, triangular, clerestory window to give warmth and light to the whole house. We have a king-size bed with 100% Egyptian cotton sheets, soft blanket and cotton coverlet. The couch is long enough for an adult to sleep. There is also an outdoor couch on the screen porch; a lovely place to sleep for one person in the mild weather. The kitchen is well-stocked for cooking with pots, pans, bowls, etc. as well as necessary condiments. For coffee lovers, you will find coffee, a press pot, Black and Decker drip coffee pot, espresso maker, and coffee grinder. There is also an electric kettle for a quick cup of tea. In the indoor bathroom there is a shower with hot and cold water and an easy to use COMPOST toilet. Our new, electric SAUNA, 30 steps from the Bungalow is a lovely experience! We'll provide robes, sauna towels, and slippers. ($40) The back view of the Bungalow overlooks Spence's Farm, Blackwood creek, and the woods. A table and chairs are on the back deck and a couch in the screened porch. The front view is lawn, fruit trees, a large oak tree, picnic tables, a fire circle, flower/vegetable garden, earth oven and sauna. This can be a quiet, romantic getaway but if you choose to bring your child (or 2 small children), we can set up our pack n play. We also have a sandbox, play structure, woodland swings and a 1/4 mile walking trail. The parking area at the end of our driveway is about 60 ft from the front door and have a 4-wheeler if needed. Pets are allowed, but Green Beagle Lodge (dog boarding) is nearby so you can all have a spa experience! Guest access Guests are welcome to all areas around the bungalow. Guests have access to our outdoor shower and outdoor compost toilet. Ask to use the sauna. We have a fire circle and plenty of wood for a small campfire. Other things to note COMPOST TOILET: Please familiarize yourself with the Compost Toilet description and instructions in our House Manual. Our septic does not provide the capacity for the Bungalow therefore our plumbing is off-the-grid. SAUNA: Before checking in, please let us know if you would like us to prepare the sauna for you. We will drop off a basket with robes, towels, slippers and water bottles. I will send a "request payment" thru this app for $40. If you prefer another payment method, please let us know.
