Jamestown-Williamsburg Area. Enter dates for weekly (7 night) price. The cottage is on land once owed by John Rolfe, husband of Pocohantas. Private sand beach, private pier, kayaks, fishing gear, beach chairs, beach towels, waterfront deck w/gas grill. NO WALK TO GET TO BEACH. Enjoy beach and views with direct water & beach access just 20 ft from cottage. Shallow river offers great place for children over four (4) to play. The James River has no jelly fish. Our waterfront cottage is a luxury beach cottage recently renovated to provide a wonderful, relaxing retreat. Shimmering sea glass colors of teal, turquoise, and lavender complement the original vintage tongue and groove knotty pine paneling walls, incredible water views, sand beach and luxury amenities to provide a wonderful alternative to hotel living. The cottage is furnished with lovely antique beds, mirrors, and a dressing table made by the owners grandfather who was a cabinetmaker and antique dealer in Petersburg, VA during the early 1900s. Original vintage brass wall lights and mirrors are in each bedroom. Fresh flowers from the garden are available almost year round. The cottage is a private, romantic, luxury beach retreat on the James River with direct water access, wide river views, private 180 foot pier, kayaks, fishing poles, and private white sand beach. The cottage is level with the beach so there are no steps to climb to reach the beach. Just walk out the French Doors to your water-side deck, and the beach is about 20 feet away. Our cottage is a perfect size for a couple but works equally well for a small family of four or five. It can accommodate up to five people with three cozy bedrooms - one with a queen bed, one with a double bed, and the third bedroom with a twin day bed. The living room, dining room and kitchen are an open L-shaped floor plan to maximize space. A flat screen TV and dvd player are in the living room area. This delightful cottage is in a wonderful location - close to all the historic and entertainment sites in the area. Enjoy both the best of beachfront living and close proximity to major historic and entertainment sites. The James River is a tidal river and is clean and shallow near the beach and good for swimming. The tide comes in and goes out very slowly every 12 hours, so it is great for children to play in. We are close to the salt water of the Chesapeake Bay so the water in the James River is "brackish" water - partly salty and partly freshwater. There are no jellyfish in the James River. Central heat and air plus Pella windows make the cottage a year round destination. We provide luxury bed and bath linens, terry cloth robes, beach towels, and bath toiletries plus paper products for the bath and kitchen. Basic cooking spices are also provided. Each bedroom has a ceiling fan, fluffy pillows, reading light, flash light, alarm clock, and wide wooden window blinds. There are hardwood floors throughout the cottage. The bathroom has the original 1948 vintage claw foot bath tub with new in-tub stationary shower and hand shower, heated towel rack, soft close Toto toilet seat, ceiling heater, exhaust fan, ceiling night light, beautiful stained glass mirror, and a wall of glass turquoise tile. The full kitchen has custom made cabinets, carrara marble countertops, a ceramic stovetop range, Bosch dishwasher, trash compactor, refrigerator with ice maker, vintage farmhouse sink original to the 1948 cottage, and microwave and is stocked with basic cooking spices and paper products for your convenience. The kitchen is fully equipped with high quality items and cooking essentials including Keurig coffee maker, French Press, toaster, electric hand mixer, crockpot, dinnerware and glassware including wine glasses, flatware and cookware. We provide paper towels, plastic storage bags, plastic wrap, aluminum foil, Dawn dish soap, dish sponges, kitchen towels, dishwasher detergent, hand soap, bath soap, shampoo and conditioner. Water views can be seen out of three sides of the cottage. Enjoy our waterside deck that runs the full width of the cottage and has a gas grill, dining table and chairs, and chairs for relaxing and watching the river sights. Our two James River cottages walk right out to the beach with no steps to climb and are 15-20 minutes from Historic Jamestown and Colonial Williamsburg via the free Jamestown-Scotland Car Ferry at your doorstep. The location is fabulous. Combine the best of historic sight seeing with a wonderful beachfront setting. The ferry dock is literally right by the cottage. The free car ferry is operated by the VA Dept of Transportation and operates 24 hours a day. The ferry is not noisy and provides lots of entertainment for children (or adults) who like to sit on the beach or deck and count the cars going on and off. You just drive your car on and are directed where to park. The ferry provides an easy, quick and fun 15 minute ride across the river. When the ferry docks at the opposite side of the river you are right at the entrance to Jamestown. Williamsburg is 4 miles straight down the road (about 5 min.) from the Jamestown ferry, and it takes fewer than 15 minutes to get to Busch Gardens. Yorktown, the site of the end of the Revolutionary War, is a about a 20 minute drive from Jamestown down the lovely Colonial Parkway. The entrance to Jamestown Settlement is at the end of the Jamestown Ferry Pier. Watch for the replicas of the three ships that sailed to Virginia in 1607 (the Susan Constant, Godspeed, and the Discovery) that are docked in the river to your right as you exit the ferry pier. Our two James River cottages provide a rare setting for vacation rental cottages in the Colonial Williamsburg area. There are only a handful of beachfront cottages available on the James River close to Colonial Williamsburg for short term rental. Pay careful attention to the location of any riverfront cottage not on the James River as they are much farther away from the major historic sites. You can enjoy our 180 foot pier for sitting or fishing or crabbing. Many guests enjoy their morning coffee sitting on their deck or the pier or walking the beach looking for sharks' teeth and unique shells. Guests sometimes find it hard to leave the cottage to explore the area. When you do decide to leave, you can spend your time visiting the many historic and entertainment sites close by. You have so many options and never enough time! Our private white sand beach, private pier, kayaks and fishing poles are available for your use as part of the rental rate. We own three cottages, side-by-side on the James River and rent two of them, and the beach in front of our three cottages is private for our use and the use of our guests. Our cottage enjoys private beach and river access with lots fronting on the beach and river. The cottage is on private property which ends at the mean low water line. There is no public beach access. The cottage is located by the Historic Jamestown-Scotland Ferry which is a free vehicle ferry that provides a delightful 15 minute ride across the river where it docks at Jamestown Settlement. With observation decks and lovely views, everyone loves the ferries -- especially children who can feed the seagulls bread off of the back of the boat. The ferry (there are several boats) runs 24/7 on a half hour schedule during the day and an hour schedule at night providing easy and fun access to historic and entertainment sites of Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown, Busch Gardens, Water Country USA, James River Plantations, The Williamsburg Winery and many other sites. Major Revolutionary War attractions are about a half hour away in Yorktown. Civil War attractions and sites are also close by in Petersburg (an hour away) and Richmond (about an hour and 15 minutes away) and can be reached via Route 10 not using the ferry. The cottage is in a rural area on the banks of the James River in sight of Jamestown. There is no public transportation available to access the cottage. Rental vehicles are available at all major airports (Richmond, Newport News, and Norfolk). The Richmond International Airport is exactly an hour drive from the cottage. The cottage is right by the Historic Jamestown-Scotland free vehicle ferry that delights children and adults alike. The ferry ride is only 15 minutes to cross the James River where the ferries dock at the entrance to Jamestown Settlement, a wonderful living history museum. Check map for other properties carefully for location and proximity to the historic sites and Busch Gardens as well as direct water access. The James River is the closest river location to Jamestown and Williamsburg. Our cottages are a short 15 minute ferry ride from Jamestown and then an 8 minute vehicle drive to Colonial Williamsburg. Many beachfront rentals are miles away from the major historic sites with no easy access across there many rivers to reach the Jamestown and Williamsburg area. Check the location of properties carefully. Detailed information on the cottage and the area is provided to guests prior to their arrival, and there is a selection of brochures in the cottage. And......there is a nine foot wide and tall bookcase wall full of books of every description (including those on the local historic areas and many for children), board games, and movies. There is something for everyone! Come, relax, and enjoy! You will be delighted.
