It's 20 min walk to Warren Dunes State Park beach or 2 min drive to Warren Dunes parking lot. Uniquely designed for comfort and fun! This house has a feel of a boutique hotel and is perfect for families with kids. It was designed by an Estonian architect studio and decorated with art we brought from our trips to Africa and Europe. We built the house for ourselves a few years ago when our kids were born and then moved to Chicago. Now it's our weekend destination, and we are happy to share it with others when we travel. The living room has an open plan, a 20-foot sloping ceiling, and 8 large French doors facing woods perfect for birdwatching. Enjoy nature even staying inside when it's raining, or the temperature outside is not comfortable. There is a wood burner, cozy Create&Barrel coaches, a 8-foot custom-made dining room table, and a chef's kitchen with KitchenAid appliances. There is plenty of space for kids: a whole basement playground and a treehouse in the woods (our pandemic therapy project). We have everything you might need, from spices for relaxed cooking to beach towels and sticks to make s'mores. We have a trade mill and rowing machine for you to work out. There is even a sauna in the basement. Turn it on and enjoy! There are three bedrooms: a master bedroom with a queen bed, one room upstairs with a queen futon, another room upstairs has two twin beds. Plus there is a common space on the second floor with an additional full-size futon and a queen pull-out sofa in the basement. All three bedrooms are large enough to accommodate a crib or pack-n-play. The chef's kitchen is fully equipped with a microwave, toaster, blender, coffee maker, food processor, and stand-up mixer (all Kitchen Aid). One of us is a food writer, and you are welcome to use our great cookbook library and Le Creuset cookware. Kitchen, living, and dining are all in one open area; it's great for socializing even if someone is making dinner and others are playing a board game. There is a dutch iron wood stove in the living area (perfect for chilly nights). There is a big backyard facing the woods with a fire pit and firewood. Sit around it and make some s' mores or toast bread. There is also a charcoal grill, a smoker, and a picnic table. You are welcome to use two comfortable hammocks we brought from Columbia. Parking is available for 4-5 cars in the driveway. Sawyer is part of Harbor Country – the upscale getaway destination for Chicagoans starting in the 1900-s. Downtown Sawyer is home to the famous Greenbush Brewery and Sawyer Garden Market, and is a 2-3 minute drive away. Neighboring towns are great for exploring antique shops, wineries, distilleries, and local eateries. There is plenty of information about the area in the house. The home is also conveniently located near two beach access points. The Warren Dunes Beach is a 2-3 minute drive or 20 min walk, and there is Cherry beach access about 5-7 minutes away by car. 2024 Update: we upgraded a futon to a brand new queen bed + new firm mattress in a bedroom upstairs (new photos will be added in a couple of days) Please message for more details. Guest access The entire home, inside and out, is accessible. Other things to note TV: We offer a Netflix, Prime, Mubi. We do not have cable. Firewood: Because of high demand and low bulk inventory we do not provide fire wood. Fire wood can be purchased at a few very close locations. Our neighbor will help if there are any issues while staying The cottage is 20 min walk to the Warren dunes state park. Just 2 min drive to Sawyer where is Greenbush brewery, trendy grocery shop Sawyer Market and freshly roasted coffee at Infusco coffeeshop. 10 min drive to Haymarket brewery with excellent thin crust pizza. Lots of antique shops in the Harbor Country area plus the Acorn theater and the Journeyman distillery with a restaurant in Three Oaks are 10 min drive. It's only 25 minutes away from St. Joeseph and Benton Harbor, and 10 minutes to Stevensville for a large Meier for groceries. 20 min walk to Lake Michigan/Warren Dunes state park down Tower Hill road and a wooded trail or 2-minute drive to Warren Dunes beach parking lot. Our house is only an hour and fifteen minutes by car from the Chicago Loop without traffic. It is 45 min drive to Notre Dame, and it's a great DeBartolo Performing Art Center.
