Historic B&B in rural area (Millet room)

Description

Step back into time. Allow yourself a chance to take a breath. Relax. Eldred Homestead was built in 1848 on the rolling hills of Kalamazoo County, by the founder of Climax , Thomas Eldred. Climax is a small village located between the hustle and bustle of Kalamazoo, and Battle Creek. A quiet rural community, Climax is unexpectedly rich in history - ask about the first Rural Route, the International Harvester, and Underground Railroad! The space Thomas Eldred moved his family to Michigan in 1848 to begin a granary for the small, surrounding rural area. It was of most importance to establish the makings of the granary before a fine home could be built. The family resided in the enclosed post and beam framed windmill before construction of the brick home was completed. The windmill, one of the last to remain standing in the state of Michigan, now houses a vintage shoppe on premise, filled with an eclectic mix of fine junque. Guests simply must gaze up in wonder at the construction of the windmill, done so long ago with only the tools, and manpower of that time. The brick home is said to be constructed of bricks made of clay, locally dug, then kiln dried on site. Eldred Homestead sits on 17 acres of beautiful land. Feel free to wander the gardens, relax on a bench, walk in the woods. Dream of times the Homestead was said to be part of the Underground Railroad, when people passed through here on their way to freedom, when the Free Masons met in the attic. Inside the home, you will find it tastefully decorated with antique funishings, yet comfortable to reside in. Socialize in front of the fireplace in the great room. Curl up quietly to read in the library. Enjoy a home cooked breakfast in the not so formal dining room. Find your own comfortable nook to claim as you return to a quieter time. Guest access Just let us know what you need! We are usually glad to share! We welcome your interest of our home, and it’s rich history. We encourage exploration! The Homestead has three rooms available for rental. Each room is named in honor of a grain that may have been grown at the Homestead long ago. We reside in “Barley” on the main level. It is the only room we ask to respect our privacy. Otherwise, you are welcome to use the kitchen, explore the history of Eldred Homestead, and wander at will on the property. The large barn will soon be under restoration to return to it’s deserved beauty. Please respect the signs not to enter at this time! We want you to be safe! During your stay We serve breakfast every morning with locally sourced foods. The meal is served in the not so formal dining room on the first floor, or outside on the garden terrace, weather permitting. Please let us know if special dietary needs are necessary. We are available anytime for information, or questions regarding the area, or the history of the house. Other things to note Let us know if you have any special needs, we shall do our best to accommodate, if possible!
