Description
Founded in 1875 this Old West ranch allows guests to enjoy comfortable living in the Forest. Close to town but with no neighbors for miles. Hike forest trails with access from the property. A private, sustainable off the grid getaway, the Ranch has two spring fed ponds and a creek running through it. Interact with a wide variety of farm animals and experience abundant wildlife. Guests are provided a jeep to explore the majestic hills and the scenic 200-acre grounds. The space At Rancho Grande, you have three inviting ways to stay. Choose one of our two luxury safari tents, Howard creek and fish camp —each tucked beside the pond in its own secluded nook, featuring a king-size bed, a shared camp kitchen, and a locked private bathroom reserved just for you. Prefer walls and a roof? This Listing, the Ojai Cowboy Cabin, our cozy two-bedroom cabin sits at the ranch’s center, complete with full kitchen and bath and an easy stroll to the barns and family cabins. Whether you’re here to unwind, explore, or just breathe in the mountain air, you’ll find a retreat that fits your mood and your sense of adventure. If you opt for the cowboy cabin, you’ll be right in the heart of ranch life. From the front porch, you’ll see goats, alpacas, chickens, and camels grazing just beyond the fence, and you’ll hear the hum of the day unfolding around you—from early morning feedings to the sounds of ranch hands at work. The cabin has beautiful views, a full kitchen ready for cooking, a spacious bathroom, and air conditioning when the sun’s out in full force. It’s charming and comfortable, but full of energy, and that means life at the ranch may occasionally wander right past your window. If you choose one of our tents, you’re stepping into the quieter side of nature, nestled among the trees near the pond, where stars shine bright, the air is crisp, and the wildlife lives all around you. You might hear frogs calling from the water, spot fish and ducks nearby, or find a curious field mouse passing through. We keep everything clean and welcoming, but nature doesn’t always stay outside. If a visit from one of these tiny neighbors would be unsettling—or the loud love songs of a frog serenading his bride might keep you up at night—the cabin is likely the better fit. We want your stay to feel peaceful, magical, and just the right kind of wild. Guest access GueCome Alive in Nature at Rancho Grande—where every day brings a new adventure. Ride electric mountain bikes through forest trails and open meadows, or take a guided horseback ride into the hills (additional charge). Swim, paddle, or fish in our freshwater ponds—gear and worms provided. Bond with friendly animals including goats, guinea pigs, Alpacas, horses, and Albert the camel, or discover owls, hawks, deer, and more while birdwatching. At the greenhouse, plant your own seeds—we’ll keep them growing and send you updates. Kids (and adults) can bounce on the trampoline, shoot hoops (watch out for Simon the basketball-loving German Shepherd), or dig into classic board games, arts & crafts, and LEGO in our cozy entertainment barn. There’s also a regulation-size baseball field, a vintage-filled playground, and our whimsical General Store stocked with curiosities. Whether you’re studying pond life under a microscope, relaxing with a book by the fire, or playing under mountain skies, Rancho Grande is where memories grow wild. Other things to note Rancho Grande is a 200-acre guest ranch and animal sanctuary surrounded entirely by the Los Padres National Forest. We’re fully off the grid — powered by solar and spring-fed water — but you’ll have everything you need for a comfortable stay: hot showers, reliable Wi-Fi where it matters, and phone service via Wi-Fi calling. It’s a scenic 30-minute drive from downtown Ojai, winding up into the mountains with stunning views the whole way. We provide all the firewood you need for campfires and cooking, along with a fully stocked kitchen setup that includes pots, pans, utensils, and more. Just bring your own food. While our water is clean and filtered from our mountain spring, we recommend bringing bottled water for drinking.
