Explore thousands of acres of public forest land and enjoy endless miles of some of the best recreational trails Minnesota has to offer. Step out of the Cabin, located in the middle of Lake County forested land, and right onto mountain bike trails, atv, snowshoe, snowmobile and ski trails . This is a rustic, maintained Cabin so come prepared to relax, unwind and enjoy/explore the wonders of the north woods. The space Our largest cabin, this two-story log bunkhouse overlooking Sand Lake features four rooms – two of which are bedrooms with seven beds total. Included are cooking and eating areas, wood heater, refrigerator and electric stovetop. Families or groups will enjoy the roomy layout and the lake view from the balcony. Minimum registrants: 5 persons. Maximum 7 persons. This cabin is nestled in Lake County surrounded by forest. Our cabins are insulated for year round use, complete with woodstove. Firewood is provided only for heating with the woodstove. No linens or pillows are provided, only a fitted mattress sheet, so be sure to pack your sleeping bag. Outside the cabin you will find outdoor seating, fire ring, and outhouse. This is bear country so please store food inside. A rundown of the basics: Bathrooms: the cabin does not have indoor plumbing , but is located near a private pit toilet/outhouse, which is available year-round. Capacity: Can sleep up to 7 people. Additional overnight guests are not allowed. Cooking: All cabins have outdoor seating and fire ring with grill grate for outdoor cooking. No candles, or other open flames are allowed inside the cabin. Cooking is permitted in the cabin. Amenities provided include a four burner cooktop, oven, coffee pot, pots, pans, and dish-ware. Extra caution must be used when cooking inside the cabin. Although there is no plumbing we do have a sink available for washing dishes. Please note, the drain leads to a 5 gallon bucket underneath the sink that’s collects the gray water, please check periodically as to make sure this does not overflow. The gray water bucket can be dumped in the woods. Electricity: Indoor lighting, electrical outlets as well as Wifi. Water: There is no running water in the cabin, there are multiple wells onsite the east well is for drinking water, this is the first structure on left hand side when entering the property, water jugs are provided inside cabin. Heat: Cabins have a wood stove for heat. Split firewood is provided for use in the wood stove only. Firewood: Wood will be provided for the wood stove which heats the cabin. Dead and down wood can be collected from the surrounding forest for use in the outdoor fire ring. Guest access Boat House: Guests have access to our canoes. Life vests are provided and required while paddling, these can be found in the Boat House. Please return paddles and life vests to Boat House after use. Feel free to explore Sand River or Sand Lake, the Sand Lake public beach (Sand Lake Rustic Campground on internet/app maps) is about a 30min paddle away. Please bring your own fishing gear and license if planning to fish. Wood Burning Sauna: Our sauna is available for guest use, split wood is provided for the wood stove at entrance to sauna. As the sauna heats up use the provided bowl and ladle to increase room temp and humidity by pouring water on hot rocks. Sauna is not available when temps reach 0F or below. Property Trails: Guests are welcome to explore our many trails on property. Expect rugged terrain on trails, close toed shoes are recommended. You will find signs with trail names along trail corridors, there are no maps on trail. Trails are available for year round use via hiking, mountain biking, snowshoe, and cross country ski. Trails offer views of glacial deposits, Cedar and White Pine stands, Black Spruce bogs, and wetlands. Nearby: Our property is the halfway point between Two Harbors and Ely. Whether you choose to spend your day on our property or go exploring nearby there is plenty to see. Ely is an entry point for the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, has many of its own hiking trails, is home to the International Wolf Center, and the American Bear Center. Two Harbors offers views of Lake Superior, hiking on the Superior Hiking Trail, boat watching in the Agate Bay Harbor, and opportunities to take a ride on the North Shore Scenic Railroad. Food and Supplies: You will have to travel the 45 mins to Ely or Two Harbors for food and supplies. Other things to note Parking available directly in front of cabin
