Description

Built around 1750 for local sailors and ship builders, The Hope Anchor enjoys an enviably elevated position right in the heart of Rye’s old town. With almost panoramic views, this family-friendly hotel is the ideal base from which to explore and enjoy the sights and delights of Rye. The Hotel’s name apparently derives from the fact that an anchor was once seen as a sign of hope and was used as an alternative to a crucifix as a guide for early Christians to find their secret meeting places. The space The Hope Anchor Rye offers the perfect home away from home, combining historic charm with modern comfort. Each bedroom in this characterful 18th-century building is unique in design, layout, and view — no two are the same. Whether you’re looking for a cosy double or a spacious family room for 3 people, every room promises comfort, charm, and a restful night’s sleep with plush mattresses and crisp, high-quality linens. From the moment you arrive, you’ll be welcomed with the personal, friendly service that makes The Hope Anchor so special. Our team are always happy to help you settle in, share insider tips about Rye, and make sure your stay is truly memorable. Enjoy a delicious breakfast each morning in our restaurant, featuring freshly baked pastries and breads from local bakeries, seasonal fruit, savoury cheeses, cold cuts, and a choice of cooked breakfasts — all served with unlimited tea and coffee. After a day exploring Rye’s cobbled streets, relax in our friendly on-site bar — the perfect spot to unwind and soak up the cosy atmosphere. Guest access The breakfast restaurant and bar are available for all our guests to use. Other things to note As we are an old building in the middle of a historic town, there is no on-site parking at the Hope Anchor. However, there are a number of pay and display car parks nearby as well as local on-street public parking spaces on the High Street. The closest car park to the Hope Anchor is The Strand car park (TN31 7DB), which is a 3-minute walk (back up a moderate hill!). This is a good place to park when you arrive. If you then wish to move to a less expensive car park, the Station car park is only a few minutes' walk away.
