Airbnb renters must have 2-3+ positive reviews for renting or be approved by the committee of me, myself, and I. This is a family home and my personal home. No parties, no loud music, no smoking, no disturbing the neighbors. If the police are called for violating local noise ordinances, disturbing the peace, or drug use, I reserve the right to terminate your stay immediately and have your escorted off the property. Guest access You have the entire house and yard! Other things to note I am so happy to have my short-term rental license back so that wonderful people like you can stay at my house and visit the area! Many people have asked for details about what happened, and I am sharing it here so you will know how difficult the city of Harbor Springs, the planning commission and the city council are to work with. I have owned this home for 22 years and been responsibly renting it ever since - allowing visitors to enjoy time in Harbor Springs, patronize shops and restaurants, and enjoy the area's natural amenities. I have had a short term rental license every year since they began requiring licenses. In December 2022 the city told property owners that it was required that owners renew their license by January 31, 2023 and that a NEW LAW LIMITED THE NUMBER OF LICENSES TO JUST 61. The City of Harbor Springs refused to renew my short term rental license, stating that they never received my renewal application and $400 fee ( which was mailed 4 weeks before the deadline)and that the maximum number of 61 licenses had been reached. HOWEVER, THE ORDINANCE HAD NOT BEEN PASSED BY CITY COUNCIL AND WAS THEREFORE NOT IN EFFECT WHEN THEY REFUSED TO RENEW MY LICENSE. In May I was forced to file a lawsuit against the city. The law under which they denied my (and others') license was not in effect and they legally could not deny my license renewal. The city was most certainly aware that they were illegally trying to enforce an ordinance that was not in effect. The following are the people who knowingly did all they could to undermine my right to have a short-term rental license: Jim Ramer - City Attorney Victor Sinadinoski - City Manager Jeff Grimm - City Assessor Nick Whitaker - City Clerk Nancy Rondel - City Counsel/ Planning Commission Member Jamie Melke - City counsel Bill Mulder - Planning Commission John Lio - City Counsel Matt Bugera - city council All of these people knew that they were illegally denying licenses. Not to mention that it is their job to know. There was certainly no doubt that they knew once I filed a complaint in court and presented the facts to them in black and white. At that point, the right thing to do would be to admit their mistake, take my $400 (as well as anyone else who had wanted a license before May 13), and grant their STR license. I would have been more than happy to sign a non-disclosure. We could have all just moved on. WHAT DID THE CITY AND ALL OF THOSE NAMED ABOVE DO INSTEAD? 1. Rather than admit their mistake, they hired a big downstate law firm to fight their losing battle. How much did that cost the city and the taxpayers??? In their response the city stated that I suffered from "gross negligence, bad faith, unclean hands, and/or fraud". ( Nice way to treat one of your taxpayers.) 2. INTIMIDATION TACTICS! Within 4 days of filing my complaint they sent me a threatening letter stating that I was in violation of short term rental laws. 3.THEY EVEN HAD THE POLICE CALL AND HARRASS AND ATTEMPT TO INTIMIDATE ME! First a deputy called me and then even the chief of police Kyle Knight call me! After months of denying their mistake and costing me tens of thousands in attorneys fees and lost rentals, the City of Harbor Springs finally came to its senses and offered to grant me my STR license...in October...,(when it was clearly too late. ) HOWEVER THEY HAVE YET TO ADMIT THEIR MISTAKE OR APOLOGIZE If you are reading this and you live or pay taxes or vote in Harbor Springs, you need to know what kind of people are running your town. That includes all the whiny complainers such as Susan Winter ( Lisa Kudrow/Friends) and Margie Marks (Fran/The Nanny) who demonize the visitors who bring their families and pocket books to Harbor Springs. Do your part and choose who you vote for wisely. And for the counsel member and city employees involved in this: I am still waiting for an apology (which you could have done a year ago.) I will continue to wait. Back to Robin’s Nest Details: I have minimum stays for different seasons and you must check with me before booking. There is a cleaning fee of $200 (more for larger groups/longer stays, less for just two) that you pay directly to the cleaning service upon checkout. Note that it is not included in the amount you pay to Airbnb. In the winter - Northern Michigan is all about winter sports. Boyne Highlands and Nubs Nob (my preference) are 12 minutes away. Both offer day care and/or lessons for children. There are great trails for cross country skiing and snow shoeing. The Midwest's best golf is at Boyne Highlands with 4 award winning courses - just 12 minutes away. Chestnut Valley, Little Traverse Bay, and True north or just 10 minutes away. And you can walk to the Harbor Point Golf course! Harbor Springs has some fabulous new restaurants. Let me help you plan your trip! I have been going to Harbor Springs for 55 years! Biking? Harbor Springs is a popular destination for cyclists.Ride M-119 to Cross Village for a beautiful 40 mile ride (or shorten it!). If you like cross country biking try the North Country trail or the more challenging trails at Boyne Highlands.
