The Owl Room in Late 1800s Historic House
Description
This bright 180 square foot bedroom is tucked away in a quiet west corner on the second story of our home! Your private bathroom and closet are in the hall outside your room. During the summer you are provided with a window AC unit in your bedroom. However, the area outside the room runs warm in the summer, and we don't have AC in parts of the house! We are heat lovers, but you may not be! In the winter you may control heat flow in your radiators. You are welcome to enjoy the balcony! The space Our home is a quiet, calm, and clean oasis for us (Erin and Jason) and for our guests. We ask that you leave socializing and partying elsewhere so that we can all feel comfortable and safe! Our house was built in 1896 for the founder of one of Norfolk's shipyards. Since then, the house has been well cared for and upgraded in stages to preserve its historic beauty. The house is three stories tall, and very long from front to back. We are still working on updating parts of the house while preserving original features. The second story is partly yours (bedroom, bathroom, and closet), and partly residential. You have a privacy curtain in the hall that conceals your bedroom, bathroom, and coffee station from the rest of the house. We provide our guests with filtered drinking water, as well as tea and locally roasted coffee. We will clean and refill your coffee station at your request when you are out of the house. Guest access We have placed a coffee station on the blue green dresser, and a tea station on the opposite nearby shelf in the open second story room. There is also a mini fridge in the hall closet just outside your room! During your stay We normally love to meet and chat with our guests. Please send us a message when you need us to clean up and reset your coffee/tea station. If we see you in the halls we'll come and say hi. Please don't hesitate to message us with any questions or if you just want to introduce yourself! Other things to note This is a very old house! We are very fortunate that it has been well taken care of over the last 100+ years, but that does mean that it does have some quirks. The floor boards are old, so they do squeak when you walk (don't worry, this won't bother us!) Your access to the house is through the double glass front doors. We use the back patio door for our personal access. You are welcome to store shoes under the bench next to the front door. Please feel free to use the umbrellas provided!
