Description
NEW FOR FALL, 2020 HEAT AND A/C!!!! Maggie's Farm is a RUSTIC, 1840's cabin on 30 acres providing a comfortable, simple place to relax and enjoy the company of friends and family in a natural, secluded setting. We are a DARK SKY destination! Numerous nearby attractions and a large covered pavilion that would be great for a family reunion await you. We are 15 minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway, Philpott Lake and Rocky Mount, (Harvester Music Center), and Floyd (Floydfest!) The space UNPLUGGED. No internet. There is a fireplace in the kitchen, with basic appliances and a table for 6. The living room, which has two sleeper sofas, also has a table for games and snacking, and the full bath is on the main floor. The upstairs is accessed by stairs on either end of the cabin, with a master bedroom and bunkroom. Furnishings are adequate, linens, dishes and basic cooking needs are provided for your use and enjoyment, with a refrigerator, coffee pot, toaster and microwave. The outdoor area is the real gem of this cabin, there are 3 wonderful porch swings and chairs with spacious mountain views, and a glider and chairs on the back porch to sit and enjoy the owls, hawks and whippoorwills in the evenings. There are trails throughout the 30 acres to enjoy, a creek on each side of the property. *PLEASE NOTE WE NO LONGER ACCEPT PETS. Guest access The entire cabin is available, as well as the pavilion and acreage surrounding. This is a working farm, the garden area is planted, and there is a chicken coop adjoining the property. We are in the house next to the cabin, and will help as much/little as needed. Other things to note The cabin was built in the 1840's, and is in the "dogtrot" style. It has been kept largely as it was then, with the addition of electricity and plumbing. Heat, A/C and a new stove and fridge keep things easy. The original owner raised ten children, and joined the army during the Civil War, where he died at Gettysburg. There is a family cemetery on the hill above the cabin. We love the restfulness and tranquility of the setting, and hope to preserve it for future generations to enjoy as well. It is on the Virginia Historic Registry.
