Description

Nestled on a hillside in regenerating native bush, featuring stunning views of the Hauraki Gulf, Buffalo Lodge is an architecturally designed rustic lodge that blends nature with relaxed comfort. Recently renovated, it’s ideal for a retreat, or as a home base for exploring the renowned beaches and hiking trails of the Coromandel. Take in the sea views, lush surroundings, and memorable sunsets from the sundeck while enjoying pared-back luxury and modern indulgences. The space There are 4 guest rooms total at Buffalo Lodge, so outside of your private room and bathroom, you might have neighbours sharing public spaces (i.e., the sundeck, library, lounge, and dining hall) with you. It’s a wonderful place to meet people but, if you’re preferring privacy, there is plenty of space for you to be on your own as well. Rooms 1 and 2 in Buffalo Lodge each have their own private deck, and they are located next to one another on the main floor. Rooms 3 and 4 are located upstairs and, though they don’t have private decks attached to them, they have their own private bathrooms and are on opposite sides of the library, which happens to be our favourite space in the Lodge. Also, Room 4 is the Master Bedroom — it offers the most space of any of the 4 rooms and has some lovely, unique features to it. The shared, public spaces include the library (upstairs between Rooms 3 and 4) as well as the lounge, dining hall, and the sundeck on the main floor. We're happy to leave breakfast outside of your room in the morning, or you're welcome to enjoy it on the shared sundeck or in the dining hall. For lunch and dinner, we can give recommendations for good food in town and around the peninsula, and you're welcome to bring takeaway food back to the lodge to eat. We recommend dinner at sunset on the shared sundeck; the views at that hour are particularly memorable. Guest access Sundeck, library, lounge, dining hall, gardens During your stay We're mindful that guests have different preferences when it comes to engaging with hosts. We're happy to follow your lead in this regard. We're here for you for as much or as little interaction as you'd like. Other things to note Accessibility | Buffalo Lodge is located on a steep hill. Unfortunately, at this time we don’t have accessibility features available for those with health conditions or physical impairments which limit their ability to walk up stairs. We hope to offer more accessibility features in the future. Sound proofing | Buffalo Lodge offers 4 guest rooms in a lodge style accommodation. At times you may hear your neighbours from your room. Other times, particularly during windy, stormy weather, you might hear the house creaking. To ensure that guests are as comfortable as possible, we’ve provided Yogasleep White Noise Machines in each room that offer 30 different sound options (including white, pink, and brown noises) to enhance the sense of privacy in your room. The road and the ford | When driving up the hill to Buffalo Lodge, you’ll follow a gravel road which is fairly steep. This is how we access the property every day, so it’s perfectly safe to drive on, just take it slow and steady. At one point on the road up to Buffalo Lodge there is a small ford to cross. If it has been raining heavily or for a prolonged period, it may have water running over it but, even in those cases, it should still be safe to cross. If you’re arriving during heavy rains, and you don’t feel comfortable driving over the ford, just give us a call or send us a message and we’ll come and get you. Parking | There’s free parking available for all guests. 2 spaces are available in the carport, though they can be a snug fit. More spaces are available just below the carport and driveway on the left side of the gravel road. Heating and cooling | Buffalo Lodge gets great sun exposure and does not have air conditioning. As a result, on sunny days in summer, it can get hot inside the Lodge. Similarly, in winter, it can get cold, as there is no central heating. To make guests as comfortable as possible in a range of temperatures, Buffalo Lodge offers the following in all guest rooms: For hot weather: -window insect screens to increase air flow while keeping mozzies out -a remote control bladeless fan -a selection of different blankets suitable for various temperatures For cold weather: -an electric heater -a selection of different blankets suitable for various temperatures
