Welcome to your charming private studio apartment right on Duval street! Built in 1919, it used to be called the Central Hotel because it’s located at the most central location on Duval Street bordering Southard Street and Duval Street! The building once housed the Chrysler/Desoto car dealership, a furniture store, and later a clothing store where the Beatles came to make a purchase and caused the cashier to pass out on the floor. It has since been refurbished into a beautiful art gallery, two restaurants, a bar, and the newly renovated apartments upstairs. The 867 square foot apartment boasts 10-foot ceilings with fans, two Sealy Posturepedic King beds plus a full size pull out leather sofa bed, huge 55-inch Samsung 4k smart tv, full kitchen with pots, pans, plates etc., fridge with ice maker, stove/range, large windows looking onto Duval street, extreme speed Wi-Fi and a luxury shower for rinsing off your salt of the sea. The stately solid concrete building is extremely quiet so that you can’t really hear much of Duval despite being right on Duval The entire studio apartment is yours. The entrance is off Southard street at Key Lime Square. Look for the bar called "Heroes" and right behind it go up the stairs to the second floor. The unit is the on the immediate right inside the hall. Although we are Key West Suites Hotel, it is a vacation rental and there is no staff, just me and I live a couple miles away. No one will be coming in while you’re there to clean etc. The door lock is an electronic deadbolt and I send you your code a few days before arrival, so you don’t need to interact with anyone to check in. If this is your first time to Key West, remember to simply let go and relax. Some people try too hard their first time to do everything they can within a few days, but it's hard, and they forget to go with our island vibe. I've been here for over twenty years and although quite active, there is still a ton of things that I haven't done. I would prioritize this though, eat well, sleep well, drink or dance for fun, and make sure you at least get ON TOP of the water if not in it, so even a sunset cruise or something if you aren't into swimming or fishing. There are nice beaches nearby, go to Ft. Zachary Taylor beach, which is very nice, or Smather's beach, very relaxing, sometimes some kite surfers and small wedding groups. There are restaurants a plenty, and right next to the unit is some of the very best, Miso Happy Thai and one of the two best sushi restaurants, Souper Happy an awesome noodle place,The café across the street which although mostly vegetarian has the most incredible shrimp stir fry known to man, La Trattoria across the street half a block has reasonable prices of fine Italian dining and the quality is off the charts, and for breakfast and lunches Cuban coffee queen is at the bottom of the stairs, and keys coffee across the street has in my opinion the best cold nitro coffee and beyond delicious sandwiches. And outside the one-half block area are also many, many excellent places to eat. Sloppy Joes is good for a lunchtime eat and becomes and actually pretty good nightclub when it gets dark. Great music bars that locals always go to is Green Parrot, Hogs Breath and Schooner Wharf. Certainly, check out the fine art gallery down below, Key West Gallery. There’s great eating next door, the noodle shop Kojin, Thai and the best sushi Miso Happy, Cuban coffee queen for breakfast and lunch, keys coffee across the street with excellent sandwiches, Mr. Z's cheesesteaks across the street, the best vegetables at the Café across the street, fine dining within a block, great live music venue bars also within a block, and a quarter mile from Fort Zachary State Park beaches. Most folks just walk from here, but you can also rent bikes, scooters, hire pedicabs, cabs, uber etc if you really want to explore or get somewhere. Parking: Parking is public on the street at metered spaces. You must provide your own parking. The cheapest way to park is to first unload your car at Key West Suites Hotel after paying the meter, then park and pay at the City owned “Park and Ride” corner of Grinnell and Caroline Street, then simply walk everywhere. You can walk from the garage to the unit or keep the parking stub and ride their free shuttle or the free Duval Loop bus. Just G**gle Duval Loop Bus Key West and it should come up, and on their bus route map it also shows the City Parking lots around Key West. Most of the street parking and lots cap out at 10 hours and have to be refilled every 10 hours or so, but some lots let you refill every 24 hours. It's about $40 per day to park. There’s usually plenty of parking though close to very close to the unit. --You must be able to climb 2 flights of stairs with your luggage and supplies. -Parking: Parking is public on the street at metered spaces. Anything beyond that you need to get yourself, and there is a Walgreens and CVS around the corner downstairs. For some reason some groups go through a case a day.
