The Major Thomas Fenner House: An Historic Retreat
Built in 1677, the house is secluded in a picturesque, wooded ‘plat’ beside a pond. It's the ancestral home of our Fenner family, members of which played instrumental roles in founding the Colony and the American Revolution. Original art and antiques adorn the property, which also features an ancient fireplace of remarkable scale and elegance. Perfect for romantic getaways, artists’ retreats, and families (including well-behaved children) interested in the home's rich history and surroundings. The space The Major Thomas Fenner House is a 17th century property that is inscribed on the National Register of Historic Places, and we've arranged the House to sleep up to 10, across four private (and one semi-private) bedrooms and two full bathrooms (i.e. suitable for a maximum of eight adults and two children). The home is an architectural rarity as one of the few remaining ‘stone ender’ structures in North America, and is full of period features and rustic pre-revolutionary charm. Guests can enjoy the full kitchen and formal dining room, or barbeque and dine al fresco in nice weather. Our family has made efforts to ensure modern guests’ comfort, while abiding by good conservation practices and maintenance of a period ambiance. Guests may encounter critters, drafts and so forth on occasion, as might be expected in a 350 year old house surrounded by woods and wetlands. Therein is another layer of charm, for those with the requisite fortitude and discernment. The House’s current guise as a short term rental supports our family’s ambition to preserve this important piece of American history. We invite guests to support us in our endeavor by treating the property with fascination, respect and care. Guests will be held responsible for any and all damage to the House or its contents. Guest access Access to the house is granted via a keyless entry system. The code for your stay will be provided prior to arrival. Other things to note The Fenner House is very well kept and is equipped with WiFi throughout; the House also includes multiple TVs outfitted with Amazon Firesticks, enabling guests to enjoy streaming content via preferred app. Please note the 5th ‘bedroom’ with twin bed does not have a door to the hallway, and upstairs guests must pass through this space to access the adjacent bathroom. Guests are provided with self-guided tour materials that highlight the history of the home and the architectural and historical features within it. Registration number RE.02514-STR
