Is this the best lakeside house in Indiana? - 4 spacious bedrooms, a stocked kitchen, a massive lighted deck, a screened porch, lakeside views, a large beach, a huge firepit area, lots of lake toys (4 kayaks, 2 SUP boards), and attentive/active hosts! Add in that quiet Golden Lake boasts excellent fishing, and you can see why The Sanctuary on Golden Lake is a place to make lifelong memories with family or long-time friends. NOTE: No pets. No parties. No smoking. No college-aged groups. The space This home is where you can make long-term family memories, meet former school friends, or enjoy a quiet lakeside retreat! It features large open living spaces on the main floor, two eating areas, and a popular puzzle table. Two large bedrooms (one King and one with two twin beds) are also on the main floor, along with a bathroom and shower. The upstairs features an oversized master bedroom (King bed) with a walk-in closet and a second large bedroom (queen bed). A massive bathroom separates them, including a colossal jacuzzi bathtub. Each upstairs bedroom opens to a living area with two couches and a 55" smart TV with a DVD player provided. NOTE: we do NOT have satellite TV, but you can stream or connect your devices to the smart TV. The house sits on a "double lot," so guests have a large yard with space to be together and yet have privacy while relaxing around the fire pit area (free firewood provided). No pets. No smoking. No parties. And at most eight (8) people. It is perfect for six adults. Quiet time is from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. each night. THE AREA The house is well-located for you to explore nearby Pokagon State Park (and its toboggan run in winter!), attend a festival or concert in Angola, Shipshewana, or Fort Wayne, visit the many antique stores in Angola, or enjoy the many nearby wineries. It is a stellar summer vacation place for families who like quiet lakes. Fall and Winter are just as good as summer, and this place transforms into an unforgettable "getaway" for study, writing, retreats for small teams/groups, women's weekends away, and families of Trine University students. This is a single-story 1960s fishing cottage that has been remodeled three times and modernized again in 2019. The air conditioning and heating will keep you in control of your comfort when inside while you stay connected to the world via fast and free WiFi. Golden Lake is situated in a rural farm community close to I-69 and less than 15 minutes from the 80/90 Toll Road. We provide a guidebook in digital and paper formats for your convenience. There is free parking for up to four vehicles. ABOUT GOLDEN LAKE Since Golden Lake is a no-wake "fishing" lake (can't go over 10 mph), it is perfect for swimming, floating, kayaking, canoeing, and fishing. The lake water is tested monthly and regularly tested as healthier than that of the big "sports" lakes nearby. NOTE: Though no jet skis or speed boats are allowed on Golden Lake, you can easily trailer them over to nearby Crooked Lake or James Lake and ski all day. There is public access to both of these lakes. The fishing on Golden Lake is good. Bass, bluegill, and walleye are the main species caught, but there are a couple of schools of perch and gar around, and some people do catch the occasional pike or crappie. The best bluegill fishing is from mid-July to mid-August. We do have some fishing poles you can use, but please remember that you must be licensed and follow the Indiana state rules for fishing. For your time on the lake, we have four kayaks, two paddleboards, and enough life preservers for you and your family (please follow state laws when using our watercraft). If you have your boat, you're welcome to launch it at the nearby launch site and tie it up to our dock. The lake rules are strictly observed, and guests at our house agree to abide by them when renting. Pontoons. Two local providers, Anchors Aweigh and Vacation Pontoon Rental (Angola), can bring you a pontoon and put it at our dock. This is NOT a service we provide, and you are responsible for all liability and responsibility as you work directly with them. Guest access The entire property is yours to enjoy except the upstairs garage. Other things to note The property is accessible via a keycode that will be provided to you 24 hours before arrival. The house sits on a lake connected to a small river system. There is seasonal flooding, especially in the spring and sometimes in late summer there is increased vegetation floating on the lake. Though we work to have the outdoor space as clean and organized as possible, we cannot control bugs, animals, leaves, inclement weather, and wind. Birds, mosquitoes, geese, squirrels, moles, trees/leaves, and wind/storms are all part of the outdoor lake life, and each week differs from the others. We do not offer discounts or refunds for inclement weather or adverse conditions that nature (including lakeside flooding) may send.
