Charming, Fully Restored, Greek Revival House, Farmland Setting
The White Oak House is a charming, fully restored Greek Revival home, located on a farm of 95 acres in the upper Hudson Valley in the rural township of Hoosick, Rensselaer County, NY. The house is situated on a country road within easy driving distance to the Capital District, NY and Saratoga Springs, NY; Williamstown, MA; and Bennington, VT. Fully furnished with country casual antiques, the house and grounds provide a peaceful setting, close to nature with stunning agricultural views. The space Every room is tastefully decorated with a combination of antique and modern furniture, oriental rugs and art works. Multiple windows infuse the house with light and include views of farmland, the patio and the barns surrounding the house. Enclosed by a stone wall, the backyard patio is a private space equipped with chairs, a table and barbecue. Inside, the expansive Sun Room overlooking the patio has a brick floor, high ceilings, skylights and hand hewn wood beams. The Sun Room is furnished with a table for informal meals and snacks; a sofa; and roll top desk. A kitchen, fully stocked with all necessary cooking utensils, appliances, and dinnerware, has a center island and an old-fashioned pantry. A formal dining room with Windsor chairs and a long, cherry table is a pleasurable place to enjoy meals. The living room is equipped with a large sofa and TV. The den can be used as an office space and/or an extra bedroom (with its twin sized convertible bed). There is a full bath downstairs with a claw foot tub and handheld shower, while the upstairs bathroom has a combination shower and tub. There are two bedrooms upstairs as well as a room with a washer and dryer. The large west bedroom has a queen-sized bed, chest, desk and closets as well as a TV. The east bedroom has a closet and matching twin beds. Beautiful hand hewn ceiling beams are visible in every room upstairs. Also included in the rental are two barns: One, located on a hillside above the house, is a small game barn (formerly a chicken barn) which serves as a playroom. It is equipped with a ping pong table and a Cornhole game. The other barn serves as a one car garage. It is located at the end of the driveway directly across from the house. Chaise lounge chairs are provided for relaxing on the lawn in the summer and tubes and sleds for sledding when there’s snow. The house is named after the magnificent white oak tree on the property. A delightful walk through the fields leads to the tree as well as a large wildlife pond created by a dam built by busy beavers (who sometimes can be seen swimming around). Guest access The entire house, patio, grounds surrounding the house (an expansive lawn), the game barn and garage are all included in the rental. There are 95 acres of land to explore, including marked trails. The fields are leased to a local farmer who harvests hay. A large red barn on one side of the house is not included in the rental. It is used for storage only. The charming gray Corn Crib located on the other side of the house is also not included, but both barns visually enhance the beautiful farmstead setting. Other things to note Fiber optic high speed internet service is provided by Verizon FIOS (300 Mbps). Streaming Neflix, Amazon Prime, HULU, Disney Plus and ESPN are all included in the rental. I welcome pets but there is an extra charge of $20 per day per pet. I do not allow smoking in the house. There is air conditioning in all rooms except the dining room. But fans are provided for those who prefer not to use air conditioning. A barbecue fueled by propane is located on the patio. There is no fireplace, but there are three zones of heat. So, the house is very cozy in the winter.
