The cottage is nestled within the Bears Den Historic District, consisting of 1900s era homes originally built as a mountain retreat for Washingtonians to escape the hot city summer months. The train from DC to Bluemont ended at the bottom of the mountain, where they were met with horse drawn carriage to travel upwards. The cottage was restored in 2018 by the owners who live on the adjacent property. The interior decor has been updated throughout while maintaining the soul of the home: original heart pine floors, beadboard walls and ceilings, and furnishings throughout. Included: coffee, s’more supplies for the outdoor fire pit, firewood, Weber kettle grill & charcoal. Guest access Because of insurance restrictions, we can’t have anyone in the barn. Health limitations prevent us from having any animals on the property. Service animals require a $1000 security deposit for professional cleaning. Other things to note Since this is an historic house with original furnishings, it’s not suitable for rowdy crowds.
