Locally owned by an Island family of several generations, Breakwater is a completely separate, private apartment in a newer duplex. Located on an elevated property across the marina, offering wonderful views of Southwest Harbor and across to the Cranberry Isles. Walk into town and enjoy shopping & dining in the village of Southwest Harbor and leaving your car behind. Acadia National Park and more than a dozen trailheads are within a 5 min. drive from the house with a bus stop across the street. The space The house is a duplex with the owner living directly next door (across the driveway). Summer rental rates include all 4 bedrooms with the entire downstairs apartment and the private large deck. Summer months are for full weeks only, with Saturday afternoon check in time. Fall, Winter, and Spring rentals are more flexible for check in and out dates since we and our housekeeper have more availability during the week with kids at school. Well behaved and well mannered dogs are allowed with an extra pet fee of $20/stay AFTER DISCUSSING WITH OWNERS FIRST. We have rules for the pups that we want to go over with folks before they bring their dogs including not leaving them alone at all since this is a duplex. There are lots of dining options with your pups on MDI. Guest access The downstairs apartment and deck is for guest's exclusive usage. The large space under the deck is shared with the owners and is good for bicycles, kayaks, etc. The basement is not for regular use with the rental, but we can store something in there for you and lock it up if you wish. Luckily, there is really no need to lock things up in our safe neighborhood however.
