Ironwood Cabin - cozy retreat in wine country

Our cabin is located in the quiet hamlet of Campden in Niagara wine country and within easy reach of wineries, hiking trails and bike routes. Look at my Guidebook for lots of local accesses to the Bruce Trail and be sure to chat with me about some of our favourite spots. Some fantastic local wineries are within walking distance and we have bike and e-bike rentals on property available to you as well! The space You can enjoy a rustic cabin experience without having to make the drive north! When you arrive, you will walk through our gardens to the rear of the property where the cabin is located, backing onto protected forest green-space. The cabin has comfortable old-fashioned furniture with a gas fireplace and an airy sleeping loft for 3. In winter, I keep it well stocked with warm wool blankets (which are known to be both anti-microbial and anti-bacterial!). The tiny-house kitchen is equipped with the basics: small two-burner gas stove, dishes and cutlery, pots and pans (cast iron frypan) and a mini-fridge. There’s a French press for your morning coffee. A gas barbecue is also provided. You have your own fire pit for s’mores or hotdogs as well and wood is provided for a nightly fee of $15. Wifi doesn’t extend to the back of the property where the cabin is located. You are welcome to use our comfortable solarium/greenhouse where Wifi is accessible. Do note that this is a shared space so you may need to schedule this. As well, cell phone service can be kind of sketchy here. Rogers works fine for us but some other towers seem to be subject to the influence of cloud cover, etc. A quaint outdoor bathroom with flush toilet is steps away. Access to a second full bathroom with a shower is just inside the back door of the main house. In mid-winter, this may be the default bathroom as the pipes to the outdoor bathroom do occasionally freeze. Please keep this in mind when booking. Also keep in mind that, considering we are a country property, we are careful in our water consumption as we have it trucked in. (We are environmentally conscious of water usage as well so we kindly ask that you keep shower length reasonable.) Our property is located in a small town with a out-in-the-country vibe. We do have close neighbours though so expect the regular neighbourhood noises such as lawn-cutting, children playing, etc. We also have a family pool close to the cabin. You are welcome to use it when our family isn’t but please be aware that it must be scheduled and that all gates MUST be locked after use. Our neighbours are kind enough to share the hiking path through the woods. This is lovely for short walks. If you’re an early riser, watching the sun come up through the woods is delightful. The Bruce Trail is a couple of country blocks away as well, with other well-marked off-trails, such as Twenty Valley and Louth Conservation Area, within easy driving distance. Please see my Guidebook for more information. The back roads are lovely if you are a cyclist, especially in the nearby Fonthill area. If you are from the greater Toronto area, we are a reasonable distance from the train station in St. Catharines. Ask about our bikes and e-bikes available to rent! Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake are only a 1/2 an hour’s drive away. Lake Erie is not much farther. Wineries and restaurants abound! Guest access You are welcome to enjoy our attached greenhouse/ solarium when you need wifi access. If you need it for an extended period of time, just let me know and we will give you some privacy there as necessary. Other things to note There is one space in our driveway for our guests. If you plan to come with a small group, you may need to carpool. Check in with me to see if we can arrange something convenient. As well, we have a number of vehicles ourselves so there is a small possibility that we will have to play “musical cars” :) at some point during your stay but we do try our best to avoid that!
