It's where Captain James Cook landed in 1770 in the Endeavour, and Agnes Water was named after the other ship that accompanied him - the Agnes. There's an annual festival each May to commemorate this. Our guests have the whole four acres to themselves, and activities on offer include: - Surfing (it's the last Point Break north of Brisbane because the start of the Great Barrier Reef means no surf beach after this). There are several surf schools for all skill levels - Snorkelling and scuba diving - Fishing - Canoeing, paddle-boarding - Walking, hiking - Four-wheel-driving in two fabulous National Parks just five minutes' drive from Yellow Cottage - There are stylish boutiques, great eateries and a local pub just down the road. - If you enjoy golf, there is a course just a short drive from the cottage, and regular barefoot bowls is held at the Bowls Club. At night, check out the sky above the cottage - without street lights you can view the universe in all its beauty. Games, books and a verandah with plenty of seating and a gas barbeque are provided. There also is a washing machine and tumble dryer, and a traditional Hills Hoist in the garden. You'll feel like you've come to the true Australia, with unrivalled access to seeing the local Kangaroos and Kookaburras right in your own grounds. A serene, relaxing getaway for couples, families and groups. A bit more detail: Yellow Cottage itself is a "home among the gum trees" to get away from it all. Stroll around the property, which has two dams and fruit and other trees that are home to a family of kookaburras and many local kangaroos. Four bedrooms, two bathrooms, with comfortable beds, full-equipped kitchen, large rustic outdoor dining with barbecue - a perfect place to unwind and just relax. Linen, bedding and house towels provided. Families of kangaroos and kookaburras call this acreage home, and the softly rolling style of the property invites you to walk around it. All this comes with easy access to shops, boutiques, a hairdresser, doctor, dentists and, of course, a choice of eateries and the local pub. If you like retail therapy, there are boutiques and gift shops in Agnes Water, as well as supermarkets, cafes, restaurants, a butcher, baker and two bottle shops. A choice of beaches are just minutes away. The "point break" surf beach is 6km down the road at Agnes Water (top recommendation: get up around 6am to watch the surfers ride the waves in the early morning sun - simply amazing). The calm bay of Seventeen Seven (so picturesque and perfect for just lazing, and safe for children) is a further 6km on. Enjoy fishing, snorkelling, diving, surfing (there are surf schools for both adults and children), kitesurfing, canoeing, hire a scooter - or just laze around on the beach or in the sea. Cruises run to the beautiful Lady Musgrave Island - the southernmost point of the Great Barrier Reef. There also are trips on The Larc, an amphibious vehicle that tours the local area, rolling right through the ocean and onto hard-to-reach beaches. The stunning Deepwater and Eurimbula National Parks are nearby, if you like four-wheel-driving. More beautiful beaches are found off the beaten track. The night skies at Yellow Cottage are amazing (no street lights to take away the magic), and the sunsets at 1770 are truly memorable. Yellow Cottage has ample undercover parking for all vehicles. The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering, and we provide a washing machine and tumble dryer for your use. All linen, bedding and towels are provided at no extra cost. This property is not recommended for people with disability. There are steps up and down in the cottage, and the 4 acres does not have concrete paths to provide access. In addition, the whole of Agnes Water / 1770 has no Vodaphone coverage, and Telstra and Optus can be hit and miss. This is another reason we provide free unlimited WiFi. Well-behaved pets are welcome but are not allowed in the bedroom areas or on the furniture. The local area is generally dog friendly. Guest access Yellow Cottage is a truly Australian homestead that provides a warm welcome and offers a tranquil interlude from everyday life. We provide the whole property for your use, and have a keybox by the door so you can arrive any time. Enjoy the privacy and space of Yellow Cottage for a few days or a few weeks. It's a wonderful place to unwind, while still having access to nightlife and a vibrant (but relaxed) cafe and restaurant environment. We have a folder full of activities at the cottage. Yellow Cottage is a happy place to be. Perfect for a couple getaway, or for taking a break with family/friends. Dogs are welcome but the property is unfenced and kangaroos do roam at will. We look forward to welcoming you. Other things to note This is a sizeable country cottage (4 bedrooms, two bathrooms) that is set in natural grounds of 4 acres with lots of wildlife. We provide free unlimited WiFi, with a Smart TV and Prime subscription - all in a comfortable homestyle environment. There are games, books and a CD player in the living room, plus towels for the beach and a barbeque on the verandah. Outside, there are birds - including two families of Kookaburras - and kangaroos who love our 4 acres, and the biggest night sky you could wish for. Each of the four bedrooms is individually decorated, and includes quality mattresses and linen. We have reverse-cycle air-conditioning in the main living area, and also in the main bedroom (with own ensuite full bathroom), and fans / heaters in the other three bedrooms. There are outdoor and indoor dining areas, and a kitchen with full-sized fridge to cook up a meal for a couple, family or friends The original part of the cottage dates to the turn of the century, and it was put on the land in 1947. There have been two major extensions since then and a second full bathroom was added in 2022.
