We are in the middle of Detroit Metro, <10 mins from the airport & 15-30 min away from all the cool spots from Detroit to Ann Arbor. This basement is ideal for privacy, long term stays or for larger groups of people (5 max): 1 Q bed, 1 futon & 1 Q air mattress. For full disclosure, we ask that you please read the house rules BEFORE booking. We cannot host children younger than 13. If you book with (an) additional guest(s), you’re responsible to make sure they know the rules too. Thank you! HOUSE RULES —————————————— As you know, Airbnb in shared homes are very different from hotels. You are using a spare room or space in someone else’s home. As such, it is fundamental that you review this manual so we are all on the same page with expectations and both enjoy a wonderful experience together. Please read carefully and let us know if you have any questions: ** NO 3RD PARTY BOOKINGS: You must make a reservation with your own account only. If your friend wants to make a reservation, they would need to have an account with their information and make the reservation themselves. ** SAFETY: No one other than the registered guest(s) would be allowed to stay in the house. No visitors are allowed for short term stays. For long term, you must request permission. Do not invite or bring anyone to the house without our consent. If they are not approved to visit, you will need to make arrangements to see them outside of the house. ** BOOKING HONESTY: Make sure if you are making a reservation for more than 1 person (you), that you mark the correct number of guests in the booking. Otherwise they will not be allowed in the house unless you add them as an extra guest in your reservation. Keep in mind each additional guests have an additional fee. If a room sleeps 2 people, you still have to list 2 guests in your reservation as the final cost will not be the same. ** CLEANLINESS: Clean after yourself every time you use any of the public spaces. This includes (but not limited to) removing your hair out of the shower or floors after every use, cleaning the sink/mirror/shelves in both bathrooms and kitchen after you use it, doing dishes after every use, keeping the laundry room in good condition, etc. Let me know if you need cleaning supplies or if you notice any cleanliness issues too. Upon checkout, please return the space in its original condition. You don’t have to deep clean but if you leave a space or item stained, very messy or dirty toilet/kitchen/skin, molded, etc., if we have to do extensive cleaning after you checkout, we will assess additional cleaning fees post checkout. ** FOOD STORAGE: All food should be stored in the mini fridges or shelves/drawers in the kitchenette area. Please do NOT leave food exposed in the bedroom or kitchen to avoid attracting any pests in the bedrooms (bed bugs, roaches, ants, etc.). ** LAUNDRY: Please use the washer and dryer for full loads only, not for a handful of clothes. Keep your laundry use to once a week at most. Also please ensure that the washing machine remains clean after you use it. If there are any remnants of your detergent, remove it or clean it up. Finally please make sure to remove lint from the dryer lint trap after you are done using it. ** UTILITIES MANAGEMENT: Energy prices have exploded over the past couple of years. To help us keep our prices affordable, please be mindful of your use of utilities (water, electricity, gas). In other words, turn off the lights when you leave the house or if sleeping, only use the dishwasher or washing machine for full/large loads, turn off water when not using it, take shorter showers (water warms up in a few seconds in the shower so no need to let it run for minutes), minimize amount of electronics plugged, unplug what you csn when not in use, just to name a few things. ** NOISE: Please be mindful of the fact that this is a cozy home with a couple of folks living here. If you’re in the basement, you might hear footsteps from folks walking but we will keep it to a minimum. Be mindful of making noise that impacts others’ ability to sleep, study, relax and we will do the same. If you experience abnormal levels of noise, let me know. Any noise that makes anyone’s experience uncomfortable will be addressed. Your peace is our priority! ** SPACE USE: You will have your own provider bath with the half bath in the basement. However to shower, you will need to use the one full bathroom upstairs. If you have a strict shower schedule, let us know so we can ensure you have the shower when you need it. The kitchen area in the cool cave is equipped with almost everything you need to do some **medium/light** cooking. We ask that you ensure no burning or strong food smells are produced or stay in the basement as there are no kitchen fans and the windows are pretty small. ** PARKING: In order to make our guests and residents comfortable, please park on the street first for easy access to you and others’ cars, not in the driveway. If there’s no space to park on the street in front of the house, park wherever you can find street parking. You can pull up in the driveway to offload or load up your car before parking back on the street. If you need to park in the driveway in case of extenuating circumstances, leave some for our car to park behind you. If your car is blocked, let me know. ** DAMAGE ASSESSMENT: If a guest damages anything in or around the house, depending on the cost of the repair or replacement and the length of your stay, you may be charged for repair or replacement of the item. It is more helpful when a guest informs us of the damage immediately after it occurs as context matters. We don’t usually go this route unless it’s extensive or it was hidden from us. Damages will be reported and payment will be requested within 48 hours of checkout. ** TEMPERATURE: Let me know if you need the house temp adjusted and I’ll do so as safely as possible. Do **not** change it yourself. We also have a couple of small heaters if it gets too cold for you and a fan if it gets too hot. Just let me know so we can provide it to you. ** MAIL: We do NOT handle any mail or package. If you need an address for a delivery, either use a local pickup location with UPS/FedEx/Amazon or if you’re here for work or school, get it mailed there. We cannot be responsible for other people’s mail and have had too many instance of mail being delivered here long after a guest is gone. ** HOUSE CHECK-IN INFO: Someone will check you in in person and hand you keys to the house and your room/basement. Wi-fi information are right here on the app for your convenience when you check in. If you have trouble with it, let me know. If you need recommendations on things to do in the area, let me know ASAP! :) ** HEALTH: if you’re sick with COVID, monkeypox, flu or any other communicable disease, please cancel your trip and work with Airbnb or the travel insurance to see if you’ll be covered for a refund. Also please maintain a high level of cleanliness in the shared spaces like the shower or laundry room. Our experience with Airbnb has led us to create this detailed manual. This is not to be nit picky or difficult but rather to ensure we are all on the same page and have a great experience together. If this agreement is not respected, we will be reaching out to address the problem with you in person. If it persists, we will have to end/cancel the reservation with no refunds. If you encounter any problem during your stay, please also reach out to us to address it. We are open to feedback and prefer to learn about what we can do to improve your experience before you check out. Thank you for your cooperation and let us know if you need any clarification with any of these items. This basement is awesome! It’s basically a mini studio where you can hang out, get your privacy, with your own small kitchenette for some light cooking and a half bath. The kitchen has a mini fridge, dishwasher, sink, microwave, cookware and silverware, a cooking plate and tons of storage. There’s a fuse box downstairs, as well as the HVAC system and the laundry room. While the laundry room is also in the basement and a shared space, we will only use it in your absence with your consent and sparingly. We are always available to our guests (via ABB and text/call) to answer any questions or concerns they have. For the most part, we prefer to give our guests their space. That said, we also enjoy conversations when seeing each other. Very family friendly quiet and SAFE neighborhood with friendly residents. No crime or raucous. You can run or go for walks safely and comfortably here. No issues with parking car on the street. Make sure to park in the direction of traffic to avoid getting a ticket. Do make sure to lock your doors and not leave any valuables - just a precaution to take no matter what neighborhood. There’s no convenient public transportation around here so you do need a car here. If you don’t have a car, uber and cabs will be your best bet (though more pricey). Biking can be an options as there are buses running in neighboring areas but I wouldn’t rely on a bike as a main mode of transport unless for running errands like groceries. Full disclosure: Not everyone likes the idea of sharing the shower upstairs. That said, with you having your half bath downstairs, you are the luckiest person in the house as you will be the only one with a private bathroom space outside of 20 mins of showering. I do encourage you to get a robe of some sort or bring clothes/PJs upstairs to avoid bumping into someone with only a towel on :) Note for our Cool Cave occupants: The wood floor upstairs creaks in some areas so you may hear footsteps when folks walk upstairs. That said, it is not too bad unless you are extremely sensitive to noise in general. We are also usually quiet at night so you will hear it more during the day if you’re here all day.
