Trip Advisor: Wicker Park is one of the top destinations in Chicago for shopping, dining and especially nightlife. The neighborhood is excellent for walking and is easily accessible from downtown by train, bus or taxi. Wicker Park centers around the six-way intersection of Damen Ave, North Ave and Milwaukee Ave. From this hub you can walk for several blocks in any direction and easily spend a day exploring swanky shops and restaurants. On weekend evenings, literally thousands of people swarm the streets, hopping from one nightclub to the next. Wicker Park is home to some of the trendiest shops and restaurants in the city and has been named a top "hipster" neighborhood of the country. Although in the 1990's it was a meca of music and art, most of the artists have been priced out of the area. The artistic vibe remains and there is still a thriving music scene, but most of the actual residents are young professionals and wealthy families. Many locals may feel that Wicker Park has become overly gentrified, but nonetheless it is an extremely popular neighborhood. If a more up-n-coming neighborhood suits your taste then Logan Square is just a few miles to the northwest. The streets of Milwaukee, Damen and Division form a giant triangle which is about 1.7 miles in diameter. This is a fantastic walking route and and is dense with activities. Begin your walk at the six-way intersection heading southeast on Milwakee Ave. Along the way you'll see local boutique stores, vintage clothing shops, world-class restaurants, dives, head shops, cafes and just about everything else you would ever imagine a thriving city neighborhood has to offer. If you walk the entire triangle then you'll wind up right back at your starting point. In addition to the retail offerings, Wicker Park is also a historic neighborhood and has some of the most beautiful homes in the city. Many of these grand houses fell into disrepair in the 80's but have since been renovated and restored to their former glory. To see them you'll need to venture off of the main streets a block or so. In particular, the streets around Wicker Park as well as Hoyne Ave are great for a quiet walk and gawking at multi-million dollar mansions. Wicker Park is a recommended stop on your visit to Chicago. It can be reached via the Damen or Division stop of the CTA Blue Line, The North Ave. bus, The Damen Ave. bus, or by taxi. Parking is limited, especially on the weekends. Public Transportation is Amazing... Subway: Chicago's CTA, EL (elevated train system) is 3 blocks away. The Blue Line - Division Stop (Direct access to OHare airport and the heart of the Loop/Millennium Park downtown) Buses: Division Stop 1/2 block away services three bus lines. Taxis: Taxi's are plentiful on Division street. Bikes: The Chicago Bike Share program, DIVVY, is 1/2 block away. Rent for $7 a day. Buses: Run every ten minutes in all directions. During the summer, the Division bus drops you near the beach! Cars: No need for a car, but if you drive, street parking usually isn't hard to find Guest access Street Parking, WiFi, Cable Tv, Coin Laundry in basement, Nespresso, pretty much anything besides my clothing. :) Other things to note Apartment is a third floor walk up.
