Rustic charm close to Portland
Rustic charm close to Portland
Description
Peaceful and private. My home is a country getaway with unique charm and has a feeling like no other. Just voted the safest town to live in Maine, located close to downtown Portland, the Portland Jet Port, Freeport, beautiful Maine beaches, apple orchards, a Gorgeous wedding venue a mile away called Caswell Farm and close to trails for hiking, my home has many options. It's a great spot for a group of 6 or a couple of 2 to unwind. The space This lovely home was built in 1979 with a non-traditional post and beam style, so instead of mortise and tenon joints it is bolted. It has true 12" x 12" and 9" x 9" beams harvested locally. It is south facing and well insulated so the household efficiency is wonderful. We use wood heat with a back-up monitor heater that heats the entire house if fires are not your thing. It is cozy and has everything someone would need for an amazing trip to the great State of Maine. Please note, our pricing is based on two guests. We try to keep it competitive for a couple while traveling. We allow 6 people max and after the two there is an extra person fee of $30 Per person per night to cover the costs of cleaning, laundry, maintenance, insurance and utilities that extra guests cost. Children under the age of 2 are free. We currently are starting a trial period of allowing dogs to visit. We have had a few that caused a lot of damage so Only the best dogs allowed :) No wiggle room on the $75 pet fee. Dog rules are printed at the house in the manual but the basics include picking up after them and not allowed on furniture etc. Thanks for cooperation. Guest access The entire house is available to guests. It is an open concept with many updates and unique features. The First floor has the laundry room, the kitchen, a full bathroom, the living room which has a wrap around couch and a large TV , the woodstove and the guest bedroom which has a queen size bed and its own entrance. The second floor has the master bedroom with a king size bed and full bathroom and an additional full size bed. Also a smaller TV and DVD player. The greenhouse is awesome but used for wood storage in the off season, the porch which has two entry doors, the deck, front yard, back yard and fire pit. There is parking enough for 3 cars. Other things to note We heat with wood but if you are not comfortable using a wood stove or have no experience we have a monitor heater that heats the whole house no problem and ask that you use that instead of the wood stove. Experience with a wood stove is preferred but instructions are available. There are two air conditioning units. One is located in the downstairs bedroom and only works for that room. We have floors fans throughout the house for the summer heat and another air conditioner located upstairs that works only for that bedroom area with the door closed. New in 2025 a Nespresso machine. While we provide regular coffee for the drip machine we do not provide nespresso pods. Please bring your own pods or they can be purchased online or at the closest Shaws on Auburn Street in Portland. Also there is a yurt on the property that we rent out as well. There is a chance that the main house and yurt could be rented at the same time so we kindly ask guests to respect each other’s privacy. The only shared area is the driveway so both rentals are very private.
