Come stay in our sparkling clean, renovated log cabin in the woods with beautiful views of river, mountains and stars. Located by the charming village of Williamsville, close to historic Newfane village, 12 miles from Mount Snow for skiing, and right on the refreshingly cool and clear Rock River. It's the perfect place for a romantic getaway, a family vacation or quality times with dear friends. Recent addition: outdoor hot tub with views of mountains, river and open sky above. The cabin is tastefully modernized by Danish builder, and the open concept kitchen, dining room, and living room with rows of huge, panoramic windows offers amazing views of mountains and front row for leaf peeping. The 18 acre property is located on the Rock River, at the end of a dirt road. The property offers opportunity for scenic snowshoeing and hiking. We provide five pairs of snow shoes – (bring you own snow boots). The property has about one mile of river frontage with access to the clear and refreshing water of the Rock River. In the summer, private dips in the river are just a short stroll from the house. Additionally, in the center of Williamsville, just 2 minutes drive from the cabin, you'll find one of the best swimming holes in the area. Quiet, peaceful, lovely, romantic... stay for two nights or several weeks. As a Dane, I take cleanliness very seriously. Beginning with the outbreak of COVID-19, we are now blocking off a full day between reservations to do a deep cleaning of the cabin and the hot tub. To help us mitigate the extra cost of this deep cleaning, we have raised the cleaning fee to $75. We appreciate your understanding. Guests have access to two bedrooms (one with a queen and one with two twin beds) and one bathroom. Also, of course, guests have access to the big open concept living room/dining room and kitchen with panoramic views of mountains and the river. In the basement, guest have access to the laundry room with a washing machine, a dryer and a small drying rack. Outside, there are two decks with amazing views. The one, sits a dining table and four chairs. The other, sits the hot tub, which comfortably fits four people, as well as a couple of chairs and lounge chairs. In the yard, next to the cabin, is a hammock and a fire pit with four Adirondack chairs. Guest also have exclusive access to the 18 acres of land with one mile of river frontage, several lounge areas with chairs, and one fire pit on the big, open meadow by the river. We do self check in with a lock box on the front door. However, you can call me 24/7 should you have any questions or concerns during your stay. I live in Brattleboro, just twenty minutes drive from the cabin, and can come right over or answer your questions on the phone. The cabin is located by the charming village of Williamsville and close to historic Newfane village, right on the Rock River with refreshingly cool and clear water all summer long. For some the the best downhill skiing and snowboarding in Vermont, Mount Snow is located 12 miles away (approx. 20 minutes drive), Stratton is 25 miles away (approx. 40 minutes), and Magic Mountain is 27 miles (approx. 45 minutes) away. For Cross-Country skiing, Brattleboro Country Club is 11 miles away, Grafton Trails and Outdoor Center (also offers snowshoeing and mountain biking in the snow) is located 20 miles (approx. 30 minutes) away and Prospect Mountain is 25 miles (approx. 40 minutes) away. Grafton offers guided trails with wine and cheese by outdoors fire pits. Shopping, Dining and Entertainment: In the quaint village of Newfane, just ten minutes away, you'll find two stores: a charming, old country store with picnic supplies such as wine and beer, cheese, sandwiches, deli foods, desserts, coffee and muffins, and the Dutton Farmstand, which has turned a old barn into a big market with fresh fruits and vegetables, homebaked goods, lots of local products, soft and hard drinks, canned and dry foods, and much more. In just 20 minutes, you’ll be in the town of Brattleboro, which offers multiple opportunities for shopping at Hannafords, Price Chopper, Aldi and the Brattleboro Food Co-op (the latter, with many local and organic whole foods). Brattleboro Main Street is bustling with life and good shopping experiences such as art galleries, jewelry stores, interior design stores, antique furniture and consignment stores, cafes, and restaurants (for both casual and fine dining). On most weekends, you can enjoy live music at one or more venues, world class acts at the Vermont Jazz Center or a movie at the Latchis Theater. Less than ten minutes drive from the cabin, in the village of Newfane, are two well-renowned restaurants: the Fat Crow, which has great pizza and a nice, local vibe, and Anrea's Table, which has more of an upscale vibe. Other places of interests: For children, the Retreat Farm in Brattleboro offers petting zoo, play ground and year-round activities such as family snowshoeing, campfires, Abenaki storytelling, and much more. The puppet theater in Putney, "Sandglass," feels like a step back to a simpler time with top-notch performances. Next door to the Retreat Farm is the Grafton Village Cheese Company's store with cheese tastings galore. A great place for delicious, local cheeses, jams, mustards, and more. In the summer, Olallie Daylily Garden is a beautiful spot for a picnic, pick-your-own blueberries, flowers and a stroll in the woods. In the fall, you can go apple picking at Green Mountain Orchard, Scott's Farm (which appears in the movie The Cider House Rules with Tobey Maguire and Michael Caine) and many other places. This is such a wonderful way to spend a sunny afternoon. And, if you're lucky, you can also get some home made apple cider donughts :) There are numerous great swimming holes and hiking trails around. We will provide you with a list of our favorites for your convenience. There is plenty of parking in front of the garage, next to the house. Winter tires are advisable for six months of the year in Vermont. Four wheel drive is recommended on the few days during early spring, when a sudden rise in the temperature can make the last 1/5 of dirt road leading to the cabin soft and muddy. You can also park at the village parking lot and have our 4x4 truck to drive back and forth for the length of your stay. Unfortunately, there are no public transportation to our village. Due to orders from the insurance company, the fireplace is only for candle lights, not wood fires. We do provide complimentary candles :) However, we love wood fires, too! So, there are two out-door fire pits on the property, one on the meadow by the river and one by the cabin with a view of the mountains and the river below. We provide firewood (and a hatchet), should you want to create your perfect fire. You can use the complimentary fire starter or roam the woods for kindling.
